The Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee will investigate the federal government and state of Hawaii’s response to the wildfires in Maui...

Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.)

said in a statement provided to Forbes the committee will 'examine' the federal response in Maui and work with other committees to ensure accountability and minimise 'the risk of waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars.'

Comer said the response by 'federal, state, and local officials' raises serious questions, adding his committee has a responsibility to ensure the proper use of taxpayers’ money.

Comer’s stance was one echoed by McCarthy last week, when the House Speaker questioned how hundreds of people could be unaccounted for after the fire and said he would work with committees on an investigation, and called Biden’s earlier refusal to comment to a reporter on the fires 'unacceptable, according to multiple reports.

The tweet headlines don’t capture it. The electric company said there was an initial fire due to power lines going down (due to storm wind). Fire department responded and put it out, and the fire department even left after saying the fire was cleared. They then turned off their power grid so the lines supposedly couldn’t start another fire, due to the ongoing winds.

They say, 6 hours passed between that fire and the second one that then turned into this disaster.

I know it has been forgotten, as these things always do, but that Norfolk southern train wreck in east Palestine had the same thing where fire chief says one thing, governor says another, EPA says another, and of course Norfolk southern has their own story.

I think they all, in both instances, just want it to blow over by other news cycles so people forget

But while she didn’t lose her Lahaina apartment to the blaze, she’s about to be displaced for another reason.

Boam and dozens of other tenants around Maui have received 45-day notices to vacate — many coming from landlords who say they need their properties back to house family members whose homes were destroyed in the fires.
