Then why hasn't he contacted the police to set his story straight?

In case you haven't heard, American police and the average American's opinion of them is at an all time low. A LOT of people don't even bother to get police involved in matters due to lack of trust or lack of confidence in their capabilities and intentions.
I personally believe that he is doing the right thing by contacting counsel and reporting when and if he has to because it is innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.
True, but so is your spelling. My god dude.
I'm basing this off reading forums, tweets and TMZ, so make of it what you will. Admittedly, I don't know all the facts, but just based on what's been circulating - the Jon Jones story stinks. Have fun!
1. Jones has never been positively ID'd. An off-duty cop just so happened to be on the scene, in the early morning hours? Saw a man he "believed to be" Jon Jones? The "off-duty cop" is, of course, not identified in the TMZ article. The other piece of evidence for positive ID comes from the police report and is the convenient "paperwork belonging to Jonathan Jones with MMA information on it." No way this could ever be forged or duplicated.
2. The orgy of evidence. (With apologies to the movie Minority Report). "Jones", after the accident, runs from his vehicle, pauses (makes sure "he" is seen), then runs back and, without making any effort to conceal it, stuffs a huge wad of cash into his pants. However, conveniently doesn't bother to take the incriminating pipe filled with marijuana or the paperwork that identifies him as "Jon Jones the MMA Fighter"
3. Driving a rental? Why wasn't Jones driving one of his own cars when he was out locally? Whose name is the rental under?
4. Doesn't add up. Why would Jon Jones be smoking weed in the middle of training camp, after he just got busted for doing coke and knowing he could be tested at any moment? Is there an agreement in place to allow Jones to smoke? (If so, why not one for Nick Diaz, he's is probably as much of a draw as Jones is). Seems unlikely, seems like too much of a contrivance to have something like that in place with the ACs.
5. Is Jon Jones being set up? All of the circumstances that have been reported could have EASILY been contrived. The Johnny-on-the-spot off duty cop standing by to make the ID, the drugs and "paperwork" left in the vehicle, the conspicuous wad of cash, the rental to save the trouble of having to steal one of Jones' vehicles.
6. Did Jon Jones piss off the wrong people? Gamblers? Drug Dealers? Other underworld figures who would extort him or set him up? It's not as if Albuquerque is a place that is insulated from organized crime. And Jon certainly would not be the first athlete to get caught up with gangsters and suddenly find himself in over his head.
Did you forget that DNA from the tiniest bit of saliva can be taken from the weed pipe most likely??? OK man you need to lay off the meth you are getting pretty far out there. I can see your defense atty strategy though....JJ claims that he was in Mexico for a weekend retreat and someone stole his car, caused the wreck, and left him hanging out to dry...but it will not work.
Fighting sarcasm with sarcasm? Hope so...
So you personally think the right thing to do is flee the scene of an accident that you caused. An accident involving other vehicles and possible injuries.
You personally believe the right thing to do is flee instead of checking on the other passengers and seeing if anyone is seriously injured.
You sound like a wonder human being.
You really think they are going to get DNA testing done for a misdemeanor?
