I couldn't tell you, but it's more than likely those folks have a stake in things. Especially since the pandemic. The UFC needed them badly. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they had a peice of the pie/seat at the table.

Yea, not sure if same group or if there is relation, but that's what I was alluding to with obligations, favors and bridges. They were looked after and at the very least in good favor, they oblige. Also, they really wanted Khabib for a few years and got him once and then retirement, so can see them demanding Islam, Khamzat and they probably want title fights and Islam happens to be champion. It's just booking issues that forces them into spots. I believe the MSG card has to have title fight on it, not sure if contractually or that's just what they want to do internally.

My guess would be people think there is Corrupt judging and reffing. The money the saudis are throwing around into sports would translate to a person assuming that the officials will be payed off.

Islam choked out Charles so no need for judges. Charles has had 4 of 44 fights in his career go to decision. Its not really logical to claim judges will steal this fight. Also they can't be more corrupt then judges in the US.

Not only Olives stole one of Islam's contenders in Dariush while saying he wasn't ready for a rematch; now suddenly they schedule the fight in Abu Dhabi out of all places.
and if Islam wins he also owes Volk a rematch. it really is looking like one of the most monotone title reigns ever.

cain had it worse. Lol. It would be nice to see Islam fight different fighters, but you gotta defend against the best, so yeah. Time will tell. Olives makes sense. I don’t think they need to rush a volk rematch though.

They backed themselves into a corner by deciding so early on Islam was going to headline Abu Dhabi.

Then they made a bunch of other fights involving his immediate contenders, Beneil losing his fight and being knocked from contention.

Booking Volk's defense a few weeks out though he seems game to take the fight anyway.

Booking Gaethje/Poirier tok close for the winner to turn around and take the fight.

Islam obviously wants Leon but he's done fuck all to deserve a title shot at 170.

He got his wish of defending his belt against the smallest guy at 145 despite himself being the biggest 155er, now he wants a title shot in a different weightclass.

Guy will do anything to try to get out of defending his belt against actual elite 155ers.

Good synopsis. Boils down to everyone in the top 5 either already booked or coming off a loss. Charles even said he wouldn't be ready, but they must've sweetened the pot enough to make him change his mind. Volk wanted it, but it would've been dumb coming off surgery. The other option was Chandler, but that would've been a tough sell. And, Islam ain't getting that Leon fight. Dana's dead set on giving his boy Colby that shot.
