Why only in MMA do the champs or fighters in the lower weight divisionst get called manlets?

cause they're small and big men squash things

1. Weight divisions have been a thing in boxing for a long time so boxing fans take them for granted
2. Boxing is the "Sweet Science", boxing fans get off on the intricacies of techniques that mma fans don't even know the names of. These skills and techniques are often more apparent in the lower divisions, giving them more legitimacy.
3. It wasn't that long ago that weight divisions did not exist in mma. The mma champ was whoever could defeat everyone else regardless of size, technique, or discipline--and a lot of people still think that's the way it should be.
4. Are mma fans douchier with even less class and refinement than boxing fans? Yes, absolutely. They want to see blood on the canvass, they revel in gruesome injuries, They don't get why boxing fans--or the average person--think following your opponent to the ground in order to administer a schoolyard beating is unsportsmanlike.
5. Unlike boxing, mma is supposed to be a simulated no-holds-barred fight to the death while boxing is supposed to be a sport with almost gentleman-like set of rules that ends not when one pugilist dies, but when one has been bested fair and square. There is a sense of chivalry imported from the British origins of boxing that does not exist in mma. In a no-holds-barred fight to the death the bigger man is usually favored, as he should be, and mma fans appreciate that.

because MMA is relatively new and most of its fan base wasn't familiar with smaller people fighting. Wasn't that long ago that the sport was open weight, or that HW and LHW were the only divisions.

People used to say that 155 is too small and no one would care about them, even though 155 pounders are bigger than the average person.
 
Vince McMahon's fetish for 'uge fukken guys seeps into MMA fandom, always has, will take a long time it doesn't. At least it's just the size fetish, not shitting on paralegals. On the other hand, Justine Kish might be the biggest star in the promotion if it did.

Other sports don't have the unique fanbase comprised solely of 6'8" 240 lb chiseled specimens like us.

Is normal.
 
MMA fans tend to knob-slob fighters to ridiculous degrees.

Like women, they want to knob-slob a large man, not a small man.

I don't know where you are living but even at their "walk around weight" they are not bigger than the average dude lol.
 
Out of the 18 major boxing weight class, 7 are smaller than 125 pounds. So the overabundance of divisions in boxing people often complain about compared to MMA has less to do with a weight class existing every 2 pounds, and more about having a lot more options for smaller guys.

Massive cage and normal sized refs make you realize how tiny some of these guys are, to the point where it's actually distracting.
