Why is "running away" a cowardly fighting tactic ?

Machida side steps and backs up. Gus was actually running like a wounded gazelle.

I don't think he's a coward. Just saying he was literally running which isn't what Machida does.

Basically just bleed fans want to see KOs. And Gus fans wanted to see him engage more. And Jones fans wanted to see him lose. So everyone is disappointed here.

Spot on,

Gus fans love him so much they don't mind seeing him have brain damage. Running is a smart tactic sometimes but its still running. Gus should just start fighting low tier guys for once, give his grey matter a little rest from rocking about.

Being a black metal fan
on Sherdog is as much of
an indication that you have
a boner for Gusto as much
as using the phrase "All
lives matter" in response
to the BLM movement
indicates that you prejudiced

I'm a Metal fan in general(no matter where it comes from), I'm a Gus fan because he's a great striker. They're completely unrelated.

I've been listening to Metal from every corner of the world long before I got into MMA or knew who Gus was.

Well, im not calling out names, but i will try and differentiate it. What does it tell you when your in a real fight and the guy your fighting turns his back on you and starts running away, then turns around 10 feet away lol. Its not the "warrior" way as some may say...never turn your back on an opponent. Like, these guys dont just back up, they straight turn their back on their opponent and run.....i mean, come on. Its one thing to back pedal, its another to straight up turn and run.

If you backpedal, but youre still counter fighting its one thing, if you turn your back frequently and bolt, i can totally understand why judges would and rightfully should dock points. Its a fight, not track and field.

But he's not actually running away, that would imply that he's fleeing the fight entirely.

Gus didn't run 10 feet away, he went back to the centre of the octagon so he could fight his fight, at range, perfectly legitimate in my eyes.

Heavy Metal is the way.

It doesn't look good but I totally understood why Gus ran from both DC and Jones. Don't blame him.

He didn't run from them, he ran out of some situations to regroup. It's kind of obvious since he beat both of them up far more than anyone else has done to them in their careers. Neither DC nor Jones have commented with any negativity towards that, but of course they aren't on as lofty of a peak as some fans that have higher standards.

All martial arts worth anything teach first to avoid conflict. Combat is a last resort in most traditional martial arts.

Basically.

I was in TKD for years and they actually said to avoid fighting if you can, only fight if you have to.

Condit didn't run he used footwork that a flat footed Diaz couldn't deal with. Honestly most people here would be better off just watching fights on Worldstar than actual combat sports.

Because you're supposed to "stand there and fight like a man" or some other macho bullshit

It's not about being macho at all. You're in a sport where you're supposed to be hitting the other guy. Why aren't you hitting the other guy?

If a quarterback did nothing but throw the ball straight up in the air, we'd be getting on him for that. Why shouldn't we object when fighters do the opposite of what their sport calls for?

Name me one martial art that actually teaches you to literally turn your back on your opponent and run.

It's a great tactic to regroup and try to get back into a fight. I mean every one thinks fighting is straight up punching each other in the face but really there's so much tactics to it to just win a fight. Even in a real street fight you see people running away and trying to get back into the fight. I seen so many threads about fighters running away but it's basically a tactic that we will always see.

Running away is the most manly thing you can do in the octagon.
