Why is it OK to be racist against Asians?

Interesting stuff guys, I'm just gonna read through it. I'm a little too tired of race issues, having just endured a bit of well actually a lot of anti-Semitism (I'm not even jewish) on my facebook. People aren't the same as they used to be, I'll say that, everyone has turned into a bunch of babies being "bullied". It's a joke, anyway, good stuff.

Well, somehow, this turned into yet another white victimhood thread.

Color me surprised.

Indeed. I'll give him credit though. Many times you can read and article and get very fired up when it's something close to you or an issue you care about. It's hard to even find all the data you need to make an informed opinion. That's why I like forums. A lot of times I can come in hell bent on a subject and have a change of opinion after a few discussions and insight from other posters.

I wasn't meaning to attack TS either about the other poster finding clarity in the data that was posted. The reaction just made laugh cause I've seen it many times before on here.

Like I said if im wrong I'll gladly eat crow. It doesnt disprove my other points or adress why the asians are so disproportionately targeted in classrooms amongst their peers in the presence of an authority figure.

My main point of my OP was to point out a double standard. If I got some of the stats wrong I apologize but I still stand by my original point.

Also you have to account for the fact that culturally asians are less likely to report such things as bullying. Also the fact that asians have the highest suicide rates in the military, to me this is more hard evidence of bullying than what some teenagers report in a study.

Right, I show you a link and you show me a link, the fact is there is probably a link out there that can prove any theory. Why should I believe that website? and why should you believe the site that I showed you that shows that 54% of Asians are bullied as teens? Even so why are Asians being bullied so much in the classroom in front of their peers, because it's considered socially acceptable to do so, it's not considered taboo. Why do Asians have the highest suicide rates in the military? Why is it ok for John McCain to say "g00kz" and its' not covered by the media? Why are we never taught in schools about the history of oppression against asians? Why did 2 men murder Vincent Chin and get away scot free? Why did a upper class canadian woman run over an elderly asian woman and get a $400 fine and in court the judge berated the asian family and said " this woman that ran over your grandma has suffered as much as you did."

Because it's the largest scientific and professional organization of psychologists in the United States and Canada, not whatever random site your link came from or the anecdotal examples you're posting now.

So you prefer they be bullied in the playground? Parking lot? Street corner?

It's getting sad men. You lost that argument.

Don't you have data on hate crimes in the US or something like that? Suicide rate in the army sounds like a super random stat to me.

edit: and even that random stat is busted.

I don't think it's okay to be racist against Asians.

But if I was going to guess on why it seems to get more of a pass than other examples of racism, I'd think it has more to do with the differences in how race relations played out between blacks and whites vs. Asians and whites. The black-white dynamic in this country has always been more volatile and hence been more of a social lightning rod.

My other theory is that Asians tend to be more insular and successful as a community with less need to fit into the mainstream. By contrast, Hispanics and blacks trail the mainstream and so their acceptance or lack thereof makes a bigger difference to their outcomes. Put more succinctly, Asian racism doesn't seem tied to preventing them from succeeding economically in the same fashion that it impacts other groups.

And lastly, the model minority issue. Asians may be victims of bullying or certain negative stereotypes but they're also the beneficiaries of some very positive stereotypes. In terms of long term success, being stereotyped as hard-working and smart but not cool is far better than being stereotyped as "hip" but lazy and/or stupid. Although the dearth of Asian CEO's implies there is a limit to the benefits being received from that stereotype.

Just opinions, not facts, so feel free to dismiss them as wrong.

EDIT: And for those who rely on such matters before accepting or dismissing the opinions of people, my grandfather was 1/2 Chinese.

I'm half Japanese and my own mother in law once said "you like to run and keep in shape because your people pull rickshaws".

True story.

Easy targets.

I'm half Chinese and even I make too much fun of Asians - talking with the accent, etc.

Because Asians are generally successful which makes the claims of whites holding down minorities seems ridiculous.

Btw- why do we pretend it's always whites?

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- They were roaming the halls of South Philadelphia High School looking for a fight. Their target, according to police: Asian students.

By the end of the school day, as many as 30 students of Asian descent had been physically attacked and many were sent to the hospital for treatment, according to school and law enforcement officials.

Wei was not injured in last year's melee, but he said the violence was racial tension between black and Asian immigrant students reaching its breaking point.

Every time a Asian fighter loses a fight in the UFC, you see in the threads people saying it's because they have less testosterone, built like women, etc.

Gotta admit I loled

My wife is Asian we make Asian jokes all the time. Context is important.

I going to be gender racist right now by saying women are the worst drivers percentage wise because there are more of them. :icon_chee
