Why is Captain America so awesome?

Captian America sucks..

Lamest comic book hero of all time..

You can apply this argument to Spiderman, Daredevil, The Hulk and quite a few other heroes who's powers were granted by an external factor.
I would also argue a lot of Cap's iconic moments are from his leadership and moral character rather than his peak human strength.

Yes, but Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Hulk did not make a conscious/intentional decision to gain their abilities. For these guys, it couldn't be avoided. Totally beyond their control. Captain America made a conscious decision to abuse super steroids. Not very cool, in my opinion.

No matter how much leadership and moral character Captain America has shown, he wouldn't be as popular had he remained the skinny pencil-neck geek Steve Rogers, pre-steroids. Skinny geek Steve Rogers wouldn't have such a huge fan base no matter how much leadership or character he has.

I think Punisher is way cooler. (But I'm a DC guy at heart.)

There should be no stigma from cap using steroids. He's not competing in a sport where that's against the rules. It wasn't even illegal when he did it.

He wasn't trying to cheat, he did it to serve his country.

And even though he's technically super powered he's still weaker than 90 percent of the people he fights, which is cool because it makes him the underdog, unlike superman.

For the record I love the punisher too. They're both awesome.

He's an ideal archetype. Religion and legends are full of them. That's why. Hardly realistic as life is messy, but something we see as the best possibilities in us.

I'm going to guess you got older and appreciated sincerity and commitment to a set of values.

But I've never read a Captain America comic

He doesn't have the flashiest powers, but neither does Batman, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Black Panther etc. But he is strong and has an awesome costume and shield, and fights like a mofo. He represents a time where patriotism meant something. He fights for those that can't and stands in the trenches with those he is willing to die for. Unlike some characters that were exposed to something or were born with powers, Cap WANTED to be what he is. He desired to be a patriot and fight against evil. Comics got nuts with adding unstoppable Gods and all-powerful beings. Cap is relatable.

He is kind of boring as a character. They just buff him a lot but he is just a dude on really good steroids.

Really good steroids aren't going to give you permanent gains from one dose....... Or fix your eye sight 😂

lolol true about the eyesight. My "friend" told me that clomids made his vision blurry but the nuts were magnificent.

Clomiphene can cause blurry vision and Hercules testicles..... This is true....

This is AI-generated garbage. The entire story is fake.

When I first started reading comics as a kid, I never bought anything with cap in it.

He just seemed so cheesy and lame. Perfect boy scout, brightly colored costume with the fucking American flag on it? Give me a break. And to top it off, he's from the 1940's which just made him feel more lame. Like I expected him to say things like "Gee willikers! It's the red skull!"

But then he made a guest appearance in a comic I liked, and after reading it I thought maybe he's not so bad.

Then I started reading more and grew to love the character.

But I still don't quite understand why. The concept is still cheesy. If I owned a comic book company and you pitched this character I'd laugh and then fire you.

So then why is cap so awesome? He's completely outdated, yet he's got arguably the biggest collection of moments that make you say "hell yeah!" out of anyone.

For instance,

The time Thanos slaughtered damn near every super hero using the infinity gauntlet, and cap, the last one alive, takes three panels slowly walking to face his own death like a man.

The time we discover that there is one person on earth that even the punisher idolizes.

The time cap makes a very brief cameo in a daredevil comic, and Frank Miller's writes a line that perfectly sums up cap's real power.

I don t judge but personally i find comic books 3 notches under mangas, which are already pretty lame, unless you are a kid.

Cheesy and lame as you’d originally thought.

Captain America….lol, what are you, 5?
Seriously, reading the thread‘s responses, this could literally be a write up assignment at primary school where you describe your hero and why. „ because he stands up for the weak yet is flawed“LMAO bunch of 40 y o man children itt

Do you feel the same way about movies for other fantasy material, like aliens or horror stuff as a form of entertainment?

If not, why not? WHat distinguishes those as better to you?

Generally yes.

The difference between the two is that one is simply entertainment that people don't froth about or idolize.....you dorks have fanatically corrupted the entire sphere of cinema with your juvenile interest in everything related to comic book characters. And 95% of the movies are fucking garbage to boot.

Justify it for me big guy.
