This initiative is intended to combat preferential hiring based upon that alone, directed toward people with unseen and unconscious bias, because of strong empirical evidence that such preferential bias exists, and that education on the subject could help people avoid it. It helps ensure the most qualified person gets the job instead of the guy who happens to look a lot like your favourite fishing buddy.

If the most qualified person got the job, that would mean Asian and white people would dominate the high paying jobs since they have bachelor degrees at over twice the rate as black people.

I agree with most of this. I'm even less favorable on Trump though. Everything he's doing now and the enemies he's making are just a spring being compressed, that will eventually pop the other way. This style of leadership just ensures more and more chaos.

What's funny is we had some employees at work today from a large company that I won't name, but everyone knows. They had to pretend like they got rid of their DEI program. They said they had different sections for black people and Asians. They said now they're scaling it back but they're doing it more covertly now so they don't get caught. Hiring based on merit alone ensures that only the most qualified people get the job, and if those happen to be all women, or all people of colour, or all homosexuals, then so be it.

I'm against DEI period, but even if you're for it you should be consistent with it.

Funny enough no one on the left is pushing for DEI in the NBA where a group that's less than 15% of the population makes up over 90% of the league.
