That's what I read yesterday but not sure if getting things mixed up. I read originally the plan was to send the Orion module around the moon but Trump insists that we make it a manned mission. Could've sworn I read he intended on a landing but can't find that now. But SpaceX is also planning on sending two tourists around the moon next year.

I'm watching America's Secret Space Heroes about the people who designed and built the vehicles for the moon landings on the Smithsonian channel. One engineer was telling about testing the main engines on a test stand. He was telling a photographer that there would be a massive roar, the ground would shake and he would feel the heat even at that distance. The photographer assured him he was ready for anything. Obviously it wasn't faked. There are mirrors they left on the moon that we can shoot lasers at so as to determine the changing distance so it's externally verifiable.

Also the most expensive part was the rocket, which we know they built. Easier to actually land on the moon than fake it after putting the people right up there anyway.

Also there would be tons of hard evidence and testimonials from people involved that just ain't there. Other powers would have uncovered the ruse.
