Why don't we see the Cody that fought Cruz?

Dom doesn't hit hard so he has no fear of his punches.

We DID see the same cody...

Vs. Cruz

Vs. TJ

You can tell it's the same guy from the neck tattoos.o_O

Cody could get away with his mistakes because he had no reason to fear Cruz's punches, as they have no power.

Also there was less pressure. Cody absolutely HATES TJ. A lot more than he dislikes Cruz. For an emotional fighter like Cody, not being able to control it is a death sentence.

Well said.

People completely OVERLOOK the fact that Dom suffered a potential fight ending cut when they clashed heads early in the fight and completely abandoned his style to headhunt Cody for 5 rounds.

Dom would take Cody “No Chin” Garbrandt in a rematch.

This
Plus Neck Tat had that extra motivation to fight for the cancer kid
The fight was fucking close btw

Cruz was obviously not 100%, he had multiple medical procedures in the weeks leading up to the fight. A healthy Cruz destroys Cody in the rematch and goes on to claim the belt for a 3rd time.
LOOOOOOOL

Dom underestimated Cody.

A lot of people were saying that Cody had no business being in there with Cruz... Cruz also came in with an injury... and not to mention the headbutt

Cody had everything going for him... and even then, Dom took 2 rounds.

Welcome to Sherdog, where if you lose, then we discredit all of your previous wins. Total flukes, all of them. Marcus Brimage takes Cody in the rematch.

This post doesn’t even make sense. The cut was caused by a headkick iirc.

Dom gets finished in a rematch and he knows it. Cruz can’t finish his dinner, he isn’t stopping Cody.

TJ probably stops Dom if the rematch ever happens. Cruz may have his best days behind him at this point. I don’t see him ever reclaiming the belt.

Cody is good, TJ is good, Dom is good.

No flukes here.

The fight with Cruz was closer than people remember. It was one of those shock of seeing the underdog do better than people expected fights that people tend to remember it being lopsided when it really wasn't. There was one blowout round in round 4 I think it was but Cruz came back and won the 5th. I'm not confident Cody can bear him again. That's besides the point though. Cody has unfinished business with Hands of Stone Lineker

It is possible that Cruz had lost several steps by the time of the Cody fight. That can happen from one fight to the next. It's conceivable that the Dillashaw fight was destined to be Cruz's last true moment of greatness.

That said, I think it has to do with the inability of Cody to adapt to an effective kickboxer who is willing to trade in the pocket and who has way more KO power than Cruz. TAM brought him into their irrational, Neanderthal tribal dramas and weren't able to provide the type of training regiment Garbrandt needed for Dillashaw. Cody effectively absorbed and internalized their grudge and it showed. The shot of him plowing headfirst into Dillashaw's counter hook on the same side three sides was one of the most aggravating things I've seen in an MMA fight in a long time. One might say Dillashaw showed how potent he is but that was largely just Garbrandt functioning like a an emotionally challenged teen having a meltdown. It's quite possible he could have made it a truly great 5 round fight but now he's stuck working his way back up from a rather deep well.

same reason why conor can make his opponents get angry and starch them

Cause Cruz has pillowfists and TJ has bricks.

It's not really even that.

Cruz is more evasive and retreats a lot. You can't get a lot of power when you fight like that.

TJ has a way of moving that all his shots have a lot more momentum behind them and he uses that momentum to automatically chain more power strikes. TJ moves in, out, and to the angles, Cruz back peddles and circles and relies more on head movement.

TJ chases you till you're so off balance you can't line up any real power shots and he can land his own and he's way more willing to get hit to land his shots.

Basically, TJ is trying to throw heat more deliberately and Cruz isn't.
