Why does one league have a designated hitter while the other league doesn't? Why don't they just use one consist rule across both leagues, seems pretty idiotic? Also when they meet up in the World Series how do they pick which the rule to follow? Seems like it would be very advantageous to have a DH compared to not having one and basically waste an at bat with a shitty pitcher hitting.

Great thread. Hope you get to the bottom of this and we finally get some answers.

They have different rules because at one point the American League decided the pitcher shouldn't hit anymore. The national league never changed from playing really baseball and having every player hit.

In the World Series the rules are whichever team is the home team then you use those rules so it changes game to game

First time I hear of this...yeah, pretty silly.

I figured it was all one body (MLB) divided up into two leagues.
