Why does it take so long to get good at BJJ yet...

More time on the mat, more competition matches, more focus on balance, base, and weight distribution in that overall time period.

More people do high school wrestling compared to BJJ too. Larger talent pool to draw from.

Submissions off the back are the obvious advantage BJJ guys have, but even some top BJJ guys have trouble sweeping a wrestler with good base.
 
Bottom line for grapplers:

It's not how many years you've been training, it's how many HOURS you have on the mat.
 
I think the simple answer is that wrestling is very obvious with moves been done easily, so a technique in wrestling may have 2 or 3 steps but in BJJ it can average around 5 because of all the intricacies.
