Elections Why does Huckabee have a following?

Because there are uber religious people in this country that for some reason think that the presidents opinion on things like abortion and gay marriage actually mean something in Federal politics.

Because he is a super Christian but with Tea Party economic ideologies. He is the perfect "Republican" candidate, just doesn't have a lot of moderate appeal.

Mike Huckabee, despite being a creationist, and backwards in all things science comes off as a genuine individual. He has that southern charm and is very likable...

I would take him over any (with the exception of Ron Paul) GOP candidate who ran in 2012.

So, he can refuse data and facts and simply be flat out wrong about things, but you would take him because he's a swell guy? Over more unlikeable guys who are clearly far more intellectual, like Romney?

I get it, some of these conservatives are dicks, but my money is on the intellectual assholes, at least.

I stand corrected...

i would choose Romney over him as well...

I would certainly take Huckabee over Santorum, Bachmann, Cain, Perry and Gingrich.

If I could only vote for Republican candidates, I'd easily take Ryan over him...

Was that a picture of his house posted in the left/right housing thread?

He is a wealthy land owner in Arkansas, right?

Ok.

For me, out of those mouth breathers, I would go with Gingrich. I think he's the smartest of those, but it isn't saying much. I thought out of all the candidates, Romney was the best. Again, not saying much.

Every time some calls him the party's intellectual, I cringe and can't help but think that the people making that claim really aren't thinking too deeply about what he is saying. He can't even answer a follow-up question on his positions.

I get why some of his traits are appealing, but he really is shallow.

He's incredibly shallow, but he dodged all his position questions because when he was running for VP, he painted himself as a 'libertarian' even though his voting record CLEARLY shows he is a Reagan Republican.

He'll be more open with his policies come 2016, methinks.

Swimming in a bird bath.

Republicans aren't getting voted in for a longtime at least not until the first woman president gets 8 years and then the first gay president gets 8 years, and the the first transgendered president gets 8 years, and finally the first immigrant president gets 8 years.

republicans would have a better shot if they weren't such assholes that hated poor people, gays and minorities.

To be fair, thats how general elections are won. Not on policy or previous success but how clean a candidate is and how likeable and well spoken he is. Or what his/her last name is in the case of Bush and Clinton.

The biggest knock on Obama during his reelection campaign is that he wasn't nearly as poised and well spoken as he was during his first campaign.

Edit: I would take Romney much before him though and I thought Romney was the best presidential candidate since Clinton.
