Most people here agree with you. But most of them also acknowledge the reality, which is that a Stipe fight sells better, therefore it meets the one criteria that actually matters to Zuffa.

Some fans also just like a Stipe fight, or a Stipe v Jones fight. Probably for sentimental reasons.

Lastly....counting Stipe out is foolish.

It's not that he is now 1-1 with Ngannou, it's that he is now gonna be 41 years old when they fight.

Jones could've fought Stipe when he was in his mid-30's, but he chose to age him out. There were no obstacles to him fighting Mid-30's Miocic, it would've been a huge fight and UFC would've happily made it.

Stipe's age is a problem, he hasn't fought in forever, and his last fight was a brutal knockout loss - then there's the fact that he couldn't do anything against Ngannou. Between all that it seems pretty open-and-shut that this will be a layup fight mainly for Jones to get the prestige that comes with all of Stipe's accolades

Jones has reached the top of the mountain; he is the GOAT and has done everything there is to do in MMA. It's probably hard for him to find new goals. But, beating a legend, and the greatest HW of all time, Miocic, is probably good motivation for him. Why else go through the training and all of the hardships?

Well said. Tom Brady expressed it perfectly when asked what he thought of Andrew Luck by responding he doesn't think about people that have never won anything. Stipe is the most successful UFC HW champ and Jon wants to add that name to the long list of UFC champions he has put away. He doesn't care about putting over these young guys that haven't fought anyone or displayed any level of skills that matter in comparison.

This you can't expect honesty from them they are called haters for a reason.

Stipe is literally the most skilled heavyweight in the division and is a much bigger name than anyone else. I would rather see Jon take on stipe than an unproven heavyweight. Jon is too big of a name to punch down, which is what we got at the end of his light heavyweight run. Stipe is the fight we've all wanted to see and Stipe is the fight to make.

Two proven champions who were the best in their weight class going toe to toe. It's not an easy fight by any means stipe is the best in that division with ngannou gone and it's not close.
