Why do people care about fighter pay?

The fighters should actually be paying Dana & the UFC to take part in the opportunity to fight in the UFC

Dana & the UFC has done more for MMA than any other fight org, Dana & the UFC were bleeding money when they first started, only when they started making money, people started crying on how "greedy" Dana & the UFC is and how they pay their fighters very little

Dana & the UFC isn't forcing those fighters to fight in the UFC, they can always fight somewhere else
Lol...my god. Pick up an economics book or something.

Oh, only when an entertainment org is making serious money that entertainers are asking for a higher % of the earnings. Real astute observation, totally underhanded by the guys who are the ACTUAL product. You say this as if every entertainment company in the world is doing what the UFC is doing.

The UFC is exploiting labor laws by labeling them as contracted workers but commanding them like employees with none of the benefits. Now, I know I've already said some phrases that are probably too complicated for you to understand, but at least learn a little bit a bout business.

Because one day, the next generation of potential up-and-coming fighters are going to decide to do something else with their life that actually makes money. Maybe other sports, maybe even something else. But if you don't pay today's fighters better, the next generation may not be interested and we'll be left with the Mickey Gall's of the world.

The contracts are a much bigger issue than fighter pay, in my opinion. You can't be labeled an independent contractor while being treated like an employee. Its an exploitative way of doing business.
What MMA promotion or sport lets their athletes compete outside them for that sport they signed them to?

I care because bigger checks means better talent. When a sport is popular and the money is good athletes will flock to it and see it as a good path. Its not really something i think about. Fighters want to get paid the most and the UFC wants to pay as little as possible thats just kinda how it works.

If you are a athlete, there is no reason to become a fighter if you have a choice between sports. High paying organizations do not have a clear pipeline(Grade school, College, Olympic/Professional) so even a bit of luck to get scouted is needed even with clear talent. The chance to succeed is low and even becoming a top 10 rank in the premiere organization does not guarantee substantial improvement over a typical middle class career. To top this off, you risk a substantially higher than average chance at sacrificing your physical and mental health, which no amount of money can fix.

My personal take, chasing the UFC dream means you have to be kind of an idiot looking at the realistic amount of money you will recieve. Especially when the top of the mountain isn't really that high compared to what you are bringing in to get there. Even Conor brought in far more than he received and he was the most golden of the geese.

Dana makes this thread once a year.

answer
Growth of the sport
And seeing those put their health on the line for our entertainment be compensated

It's a nice feeling knowing the people who have brought/bring you years of entertainment and enjoyment are being well compensated for doing so

simple question out of pure curiosity.
I’m not disagreeing it’s too low. It is definitely too low.

Can anyone tell me why they care though? Is it about opposing the rich and powerful in a general sense?

My opinion: I personally don’t care because like, it doesn’t affect me. If I was going to lobby for higher pay, these famous athletes who earn above median income would not be the top professions on my list. I’m not even sure they respect the average person anyway or are amazing people, so I don’t feel morally obliged.
Better athletes better fight's. Hypothesis may be too complicated for some on sherdog.

They actually make decent money now. People are mentally on stand by thinking it’s 2010 still. Motherfucking Bobby Green makes like 300k. Kevin Holland $356k. Granted that’s for show and win but still. How much you think the good fighters make if these popular yet fringe ranked dudes are getting paid.

Maybe they care because they pay for watching the fights? I guess I'll never know lmao

I just hope they get their fair share. How is Dana worth 500 million?

I think since the far left became mma fans and infiltrated our once safe forum, especially in the United States we have seen more and more whinging about it. Frankly I find it hilarious that gen z seems to care about everyone else other than themselves, so while they’re drinking their soy lattes and living in their parents basements on minium wage jobs they can feel part of a community, or something bizarre.

I think the worst case I saw was when these supposed mma fans were happier to see Francis beat up bums in the z league than watch him fight the best of the best.

Why not try and improve their own pay or do something for nurses and police who are on terrible money but keep society safe.

Also definitely cultural, I’ve only heard yanks obsess and complain about fighter pay.

its pretty clear why the UFC want to keep pay as low as possible, as much as people like to bang on about fighter pay, when you give people a large amount of money, their desire to keep training and work there assess off greatly diminishes, especially in combat sports

just look at McGregor as an example, as soon as he started to make stupid amounts of money, his whole life went off the rails, he has fought about 5 times in 7 years and half of those have been losses, he certainly isnt the hungry fighter he once was, and the UFC understand that

That's all well and good but in the antitrust law suit we learned that the UFC policy was to keep the fighters portion of the pot below 20% at all costs.
Paying people properly ruins them <lol>tell that to Floyd. That's some one size fits all bullshit.

It's just a discussion topic. Money is discussed in every sport I've ever watched. It's always weird to me that people expect MMA to be different for some reason.

Bullshit, they're just cheap because the fighters have no leverage. Lots of boxers make more in one fight than most MMA fighters make in their entire career, and they don't all just retire after their first big payday.
