Yeah, there are terrible things happening in some places in China right now. Is that the standard we hold the United States to? As long as we are producing less horrific videos than other countries, we're fine?

This thread is about why American Chinese people, and many Asians in general, do not appreciate the current tone in America.

As a half-asian I appreciate your honesty but it is what it is: a Chinese virus. Not a Japanese virus or a Cambodgian illness it is well.... a Chinese virus.

It is a Chinese virus because of Chinese culture, Milanese people don't eat bat meat. Spanish towns don't have weird wet markets like in some areas in China. Those European citizens are paying a heavy price because of some Chinese habits that have endangered public health.

It is a Chinese virus because of the CCP's cover-up and their initial inability or unwillingness to keep wildlife trade under control. Had they inspected those wet markets more rigorously and regularly this shitstorm would have been avoided. I think they're going to start doing that from here on out but it's too late.

It is a Chinese virus because well.... it comes from China. I don't hear Spaniards bitch about the Spanish flu and it didn't even come from Spain or South America. Chinese people will have to face what a minority of German-Americans went through after WWII or what some muslims had to deal with after 9/11. It will sting for a few months then it'll go away gradually. It's nothing compared to the jobs that people have lost or the deaths of thousands of loving grandpas.

I already said that I don't have any issue with calling it Wuhan Virus, or whatever people want to call it.

But the question was asked, why do they care? The people who care are not here to explain, so I am just accurately relaying the viewpoints of people who are not here to express their viewpoints. What they have expressed is not hard to understand, so I'm passing it along.

The problem is, like I said, people are going far beyond blaming food markets for this illness. There have been lots of nasty things said about Chinese people in recent weeks that have nothing to do with food markets. Basically people are just digging up old stereotypes, and it's carrying over to the mistreatment of Asians in the United States. I think that is worth acknowledging as immoral, and we should be better than that.

If it reminds people constantly tly that the virus came from China, and their government did everything they could to hide everything for as long as they could, downplayed it when they couldnt anymore, and are now trying to change the narrative that it WASNT them that initially caused this disaster, I say we call it the Wuhan Virus.

I agree, Trump's rhetoric is meant to cast blame on China as a political foe. It's a political game, not a racial attack. Some people understand that, but there's also many people who don't interpret it that way and it's fed into growing xenophobia in some areas. There are a lot of simpletons in a country this large, and a lot of Asian people are fed up with hearing their nonsense. That is understandable.

It's nice to see the Governor of California make a statement about it. People do not stand up for the Asian community often enough.

Exactly and people forget that US economy under Trump was at an all-time high before the outbreak. You can understand the dude's irritated by a situation he was trapped into because of a foreign cover-up. He was going to get re-elected easy now it's a 50-50 situation. He's been incredibly nice to China considering all the facts....

And let's not forget that a disproportionate amount of our Doctors and Nurses that are saving lives right now in America are Asians. Asians are overrepresented in the medical field (they make up over 20% of the field), and they are currently putting the country's needs over their own.
