REBUS TIME....

Didn't really have any of the physical attributes going for him that his father did. That grinding style really does great at LHW and HW, especially if you're strong and have good fighting instincts. That's hard to pull off at the lower weights unless you are a stud. Ryan is not that. He was probably ahead of where people were on that same developmental timeline because of the training advantages he had.

At no point in his career did he ever look like he had real potential to get anywhere big. That isn't to say that he doesn't have a place in the sport. He's good enough to put on main Bellator cards or on Prelims of the bigger cards. Couture is still a name that garners some interest, and he can do a lot to add depth to divisions in orgs smaller than the UFC. I don't know if sponsorship will get him paid enough to make it worth it, but if he stays in it, I think he might only get better. Lord knows he isn't relying on his athletic talent.

he wasn't good enough. Any time he took even a slight step up in competition he lost. Other than KJ Noons, his victories are against weak competition.

But Dana mentioned that he has ZERO beef with Ryan and that he should feel welcomed when at a UFC event.

What Uncle Dana says isn't always the truth... he'll say whatever in the public eye to look good but behind the scenes he doesn't give a fuck.

I understand but he let Ryan fight in the UFC. If he hated someone that bad he would have just fired them. I mean the guy that beat CM Punk got cut because Dana disliked his fight style and behavior.

He just wasn't a top tier talent despite the last name. Had some good fights when against lesser competition, but mixed results once he moved up. Also started his pro career at a pretty advanced age. Solid BJJ game, but really nothing else that stood out. Especially on the feet, where he was mediocre at best.

Ryan doesn't have high-level anything and he competes in the deepest division of the sport. He's also in his mid-thirties now so he'll likely never get any better.
It's crazy how old heels actually is... Strikeforce made him sound 22 - nepotism man...

Gotta figure his old man was like "that's enough bumming around the house, son... I've got you a job with a friend of mine at work - you start in 3 months... Better get yourself an early night because it's gonna be a big day tomorrow!"

Its weird because I read in Mathew Polly's book on MMA and him training with Coutures and that Ryan Couture was kicking ass and unlike Randy, he had crazy good MMA kickboxing.

Mathew Polly in his book was saying that he was going to be the future and he had the conditioning and conducted himself with class during training working with others and didn't slack off and always consistent.

Or maybe Matthew Polly isn't exactly an expert on the matter.

Couture's (ex?) wife had a few fights too IIRC. Got her grill jacked up.

They kinda had the wrong branding plan lol.
Yeah, she copped her a flogging in her MMA debut. Her jaw got broke in the first round and she survived until the final bell. She's a warrior, but Randy needed a domestic violence charge for not throwing the towel in. That was one of the hardest WMMA fights I've ever had to watch Her jaw was obviously badly broken by the end of the first, and she copped 50+ more punches to the face in the following 10 minutes. She had to get several plates and bolts in her jaw after that fight.

His son had reasonable defence, and was decent off his back, but he is the definition of the most well trained average athlete you can get. He had no athletic characteristics behind him that Randy had, so he only had success on the fringes of the UFC talent pool.

Nice writeup. Gotta give Ryan and Kim credit for the attempt, although obviously it was easy for them because of Randy's name and experience.

He started too late.

Ryan is currently 36 years old, which is ancient for the lower weight divisions. He didn't have his professional debut until he was already 28 years old. The lower weight divisions are too deep and too skilled to get started that late in the game.

To put it in perspective, he graduated college, then made his pro debut 6 years later. He had some amateur fights but it was bunched up prior to turning pro in his late 20's.

Probably tried to be like randy who started late.

Actually he is!

Mathew traveled to the Shaolin temple pre internet era and fought in the streets. He also fought in MMA and he looked damn good considering his age. Great footwork movement surprisingly great straight punches but hook and uppercut not the best.

Point is that Mathew is a ballsy and adventurous person who mustered up the courage to travel a path of uncertainty.

legit the gayest thing i've ever seen
Yeah that alpha male picture, is it supposed to be funny?
It is not gay in a fun way, like say when louden sincaid was walking around in manpanties, but in a way that legit makes my stomach hurt and get reall ubcomfortable and quite frankley; pissed off lol.

Ryan though; he was good at everything but not good enough at anything?
Steroids would probably made him a top 10 guy at some point

He was/is very unathletic for an MMA fighter, like he makes Jake Shields look like a great athelete.

Perhaps he'd make a really good 'natural' athlete at 40 if he loaded up on TRT?! Ohhh, we can't do that anymore?!?!
