Why did Dana let Conor boxe but not Ngannou?

Not sure it was Dana who made that call. He'd always talked down the idea of Conor going to boxing then when WME took over he suddenly changed his tune. The other factor is there was so much money involved in Mayweather v Conor that there was enough to go round and keep everyone happy. Don't think that would have been the case with Fury vs Francis.

I guess Ngannou didnt wanted to share the cake ?

He tried to stop it, and ultimately relented because Conor was under contract and Dana could get a big fat slice of the pie for the UFC. Also Conor is a charismatic promotional machine. Even if he lost badly he could come back and talk his heat back.

Ngannou on the other hand was not under contract and is not a charismatic promotional machine. Very few thought he would do anywhere near as well as he did and in their mind it was likely he would get lose a lot of value.

A big factor here is Jones didnt want to fight Francis.

He knew Conor had a boxing history and knew he was very popular and had faith in Conor. Had no faith in Francis Ngannou, plus had bad experience with Stephen Espinoza at Showtime.

Tony Ferguson already gave the answer.......

<You11>next question...........

For this decision I am with Dana.

First I gotta say, it's still a scumbag move because fighters should be "independent contractors." However, assuming that's not the case (and it basically isn't) then Dana's move is valid.

Ngannou was their heavyweight champ, the baddest man on the roster. Did ANYONE believe he had a chance against Fury? We all assumed he'd be stopped. Even if it's in boxing, thst would've been disastrous for MMA as a whole. Look at how boxing fans crow about the Conor Floyd fight. Look at how people talk about the MMA fighters who lost to Jake Paul. They were retired, upwards of 40 but it still didn't matter. Imagine what people would say if the UFC HW champ got humiliated.

Back then it was the right move because again, no one believed him. It's just not something ordinary people can do. Now we know, looking at Ngannous whole life, he is anything but ordinary.

ngannou = only wrong move dana white has made as a promoter (other than fedor)

Conor made more than double against Floyd than Fury and Ngannou did combined. I'm sure he's really crying about having missed out on more.

The only reason he made that much is precisely because the UFC was co-promoting the bout for him.

It's being reported that Fury may earn more than $50m for Francis
Conor didn't earn more than $100m, no way. Now that figure of 50m may be incorrect, but that's what I found with a quick google search. What's your source for Fury's earnings?

I know Floyd earned more than double Conor for their fight. Likely closer 3x the amount

just recently Dana also didn't allow Omalley to fight Haney in boxing. that's what the rumors say.

once a fighter learns he can fight in boxing and earns more from it than in ufc, they will stick to boxing. and forget Dana.

Because the Mcgregor fight made so much more money than anything ever in the history of combat sports.

Even a miserly cunt like Dana couldn't resist the money.

McGregor was GUARANTEED $30M. Not after buys, gates, etc. or anything, that was strictly his disclosed show purse per NSAC themselves. Fury and Ngannou's estimates of $50M / $10M are their TOTAL paydays after EVERYTHING.

While the buys and gates were still being counted Conor himself said 2 months after the bout he made $100M. Once that was all settled the estimates are that it's anywhere up to $130M. And yeah, obviously Floyd made way more himself.

Conor absolutely made way more money for his fight than Fury and Ngannou did. He was guaranteed $30M before it ever ended up being the 2nd highest PPV of all time. Fury and Ngannou aren't draws, there's no way in hell they're approaching anywhere near the PPV buys needed to get remotely near Conor's pay.

He didn't make double what Francis and Tyson made combined

Most sources have conor making either 80m or 100m

Yes of course conor said he made $130. Guys like him and Floyd aren't known for exaggerating

Anyway it's clear that Conor made more than both, but I don't think it was double.

Well here's a Google search link with countless sources saying he reportedly made $130M: conor made $130m for mayweather - Google Search

$130M would indeed be over 2 x ($50M + $10M) = $120M.

Either way even at $80M he'd be at least over their combined purses too.

A quick Google search also shows that Conor is worth 200m in numerous sites, the same as Canelo and not that much higher than Fury. So even with Proper 12 and the super pay day vs Floyd, he still isn't richer than Canelo? Despite the massive ppv numbers from the UFC?

U fight cheap is definitely true then. With proper 12 and the numbers he generates? He should easily be rubbing shoulders with Floyd, messi, Ronaldo, etc. Yet his net worth is miles behind
