Why did Conor take the Khabib fight?

Even Khabib's own coach respects Conor's skills. The hate for Conor is insane. I'm not a big fan of his antics, but I have to admit he is a great fighter. He's not the best grappler, but he is great everywhere else. Every single person that has ever fought Khabib has lost, so there's not shame in losing to him. Conor is the only fighter to take a round from Khabib. Khabib still beats him everytime though, he's just too good of a grappler.

No.1 : Everyone loses to khabib. All 3 of them have lost to Khabib.
No. 2 : Poirier and Gaethje are both a heckuva lot more elite fighters than the Infrequent Irishman who's only weapon is a left-hand in the 1st-round. No Plan B in Ireland apparently.

I think he legitimately thought he had a shot at beating Khabib. You don't reach the heights Conor has reached without the confidence to feel like you can beat anyone. He also understood if he wanted the title he had to beat Khabib. He also knew he would make a lot of money. In that order. Yes, Conor cares about money, but regardless of what he says on twitter, he heard people saying he had no chance beating Khabib and his pride and desire to prove those people wrong is what made him want that fight. I thought Khabib would win, but Conor will have a shot against anyone he fights because of his talent, ability and self confidence.

Khabib’s fan here but I would like to see a rematch because I think it’s a great rivalry and it’s great for the popularity of the sport. McGregor would do better than in the first fight and I think it might be a lot closer than most people think.
