evolutionary need drove men to seek out the most attractive women and women to seek out the most stable (wealthy, status) male, while it also drove both to cheat to spread the gene pool as in fact both are attracted to the best physical specimen they can get.

However in today's society we have the intellect to rationalize to put aside some of the more shallow needs/tendencies. Many women just choose not to and despite making good money themselves need to know the mans status (what he does for job, what he drives, where he lives) before they can emotionally commit to him. It is kind of pathetic if you really think about it.

I had this option once. An affair I was having with an older woman (still extremely sexy) wanted me to stick around all the time. She offered multiple times to have me live with her and I would have all my living expenses paid for. It really wasn't a hard choice to make. I liked my life how it was. Also the courts aren't very fair with this, in some cases in some places if you so much as live with a woman for a brief amount of time the bitch can get half of what you're worth. Men have taken women to the cleaners too, but it's a far less likely outcome if you're a man.

Come to think of it, there is a jhuge bias in general in the courts toward women, lots of white knight judges, I guess.

I don't buy that at all. There are tons of women who are from wealthy families and are single. They and there families would love for them to meet a good guy, even if he was from a middle-class family as opposed to an uber-wealthy one.

Which was exactly my initial point.

We have certain 'drives' that were evolutionary necessary back in the day, and those drives still influence us subconsciously today. But we have intellect and free will and can be better then our base drives. Many choose not to. That is the case with women, in todays day in age focusing mainly on men as providers when they can also provide for themself.
