Why aren't Superman punches used as much these days?

I hate fighters that spam them in the EA UFC game

It's probably one of those techniques that will come around again and become trendy once someone centers their game around them like GSP did.

It doesn't work in MMA because it's not disgusied properly (It's usually thrown off a kick.). There's also not a ton of truly elite Muay Thai strikers in MMA. Most Muay Thai fighters will tell you that.

I also think the high volume of kicks thrown in Muay Thai adds to it's effectiveness there as well. It does work and it's a fairly effective technique it just requires a certain set of circumstances to be done properly and that's hard to do in an MMA fight.

Yes because it’s illegal in boxing.

Super man punches definitely still has a place in MMA imo. Not as much to KO as to just mix things up, especially with low kicks. Supeman punches can contribute to making it harder for your opponent to read you, your distance and timing
It is absolutely NOT illegal in boxing, why do people lie so easily? Never heard of a leaping left hook or gazelle punch?

It’s take a lot athleticism and also technique to not get countered and get ko’d. It’s still there and there’s probably a lot of fighters that do it. George was the only one who could do it constantly though. He also happens to be very explosive and one of the goats.

what are you trying to show with the gif?

the superman punch is ACTUALLY EFFECTIVE in the gif you just shown

lol? you have no idea what a superman punch is, i guess?

the GIF shows carlos conduit hesitating to throw a superman punch and he gets countered by GSP with a right hand, not a superman punch.
therefore, the technique in this case is not effective and highly inefficient because of how telegraphed it was. conduit ends up being off balanced and out of position and eats a perfectly timed counter.

thanks for coming to my ted talk, YA AMATEUR

Arguably the greatest fighter of all time in GSP used them regularly. Yet you think because lesser fighters don't employ it it's not an effective technique?

greatest point fighting athlete of all time

not a fighter. real fighters don't tap to strikes

Gsp is the only one it was really effective for imo. Other than that its pretty useless. How many jos from a sp punch. Has there been?

I forgot Pettis actually put WB out cold with that. Probably the only one that ever caused a KO.
A lot of times with these stiff KOs, it is from the fighter hitting the back of their head on the mat super hard. No doubt the superman punched fucked WB up big time, but I think the lights got shut off once his head hit the mat.

Nice samples... Elite Strikers !

Shev I think really has the deepest bag of tricks of any UFC fighter, male or female. Her balance is otherworldly.

No I'm not saying she can beat guys... I'm saying the way she is well rounded offensively really is something special.
Dont worry, if you believe she has better technique than most guys then say it man
Having better technique doesn't always translate to wins
MM has better technique than most fighters, doesn't mean he will beat everyone above his weight class
Same with Valentina
People misunderstand having great technique with winnability at a different weight class/gender

People saying its ineffective and useless? I love when you fuckers expose yourselves as having no clue.
Here's one of the best strikers in MMA getting flatlined by one fairly recently.

Don't know if anyone said this, but that was effective because he was up against the cage. In the middle of the octagon it is a different story. It is a very technically difficult move to make effective, leaves you out of position if missed, and takes a lot of energy as you are engaging just about every part of your body in an explosive manner

That's because the superman punch is actually a fake kick followed by a punch.

That's why you'll never see it in boxing.
Last time i checked superman punches are completely legal in queensbery rulez boxing and I'm a use some later today

because it's an ineffective and inefficient technique
rOHAv.gif

its effective when you land, and it's the type of punch that takes timing and technique....it's not supposed to ko/tko, it's more of a tactical movement with a strike to throw your opponent off....only few can execute it properly like gsp can.

as you can tell gsp connected and still managed to get out of the way and not get hit by fitch.

superman punch = spinning shit

yah but the extra springing forward from the cage and within such close distance caused the that to happen....I doubt if they were in the middle of the octagon that the punch would've been that devastating.

Because they're useless.
There not useless. You just have to set them up and if you are not good at feinting or faking a shoot into one then they are easy to read. Its a effective technique to use with all other techniques in martial arts. A properly thrown superman punch lands with more power than most other punches.
