Why are we pretending Evloev is a better grappler than Topuria?

Evloev is a better wrestler than Topuria. On the ground I don't know because I haven't seen enough of Topuria's ground game. Supposedly he is a black belt but he didn't engage Hall on the ground in terms of pure grappling. He got out of most of the exchanges and waited until the last 20 seconds to pound Hall out. Evolev's control isn't great. He is the human fanny pack rather than a bookbag.

Is it because his last name end with "v" ? His top game is unremarkable, he can't hold people down and has zero submission threat. And his takedown defense is worse than Topuria's. The only thing he has over Illia is that he attempts more takedowns. But Topuria has better entries or is just more accurate with his takedowns.
Maybe because Evloev was getting the better of the grappling vs. Lopes meanwhile Topuria was panick sprawling against Bryce Mitchell.

Panic sprawling is a weird way of saying stopping Mitchell's takedowns.

Meanwhile, Evloev was getting taken down 6 times against Mike Grundy and couldn't outwrestle Barzoza to save his life. Honestly there's a decent argument Barzola won that fight too.

Evloev is a fantastic athlete, a competent wrestler, and tough no doubt, but that's as far as I'll offer praise in his direction. The most exciting parts of his fights are when he's nearly choked out or finished in each of them. Other than that I have no interest in watching the guy compete.

Mike Grundy wasn't and isn't a good fighter he was a damn good wrestler with really athletic shots.

ortega is a better grappler than both.

ortega would beat both too.

I think with Ilia its the fact that he is good enough to use it defensively when needed or to make it an option like he did in the Max fight but he would need to abandon his whole KO game plan to offensively wrestle someone for the win. The energy required is too much to handle the way he pressures searching for the KO opening. Maybe he goes full grapple on someone like Islam but I doubt he is better than him on the ground as he did a whole round with Herbert after the standing KO and did not submit or really damage him. At this point why even bother doing it as everyone already thinks he has a good ground game and he wins almost every fight on the feet so now he has the best of both worlds.

He has shown off his grappling more, but you are right. He has no top game and no submission threat. Evloev has a tough grappling challenge in Sterling, and his defense will have to be stellar.

Evloev won't have success grappling Topuria, though. Evloev will have to strike with Topuria and his body will get broken and promptly knocked out.

Ortega has almost no takedown threats and his defense would lead to him getting knocked out by Topuria. Evloev would probably win a decision? I don't know about that one.

Ilia is going to walk through him, his toughest matchups style wise are Max and Volk and he knocked both them out.

I never understood why people can't understand that the Caucasus is not only Dagestan and Chechnya but also Georgia.

These guys all have similar wrestling instincts...

I was mocking that guy for calling Topuria neutralizing Bryce's grappling as "panic sprawling" when Evloelv was getting takedown 6 times by Grundy. Sure Grundy was a decent wrestler with a decent background for a British. But he's not as good as someone like Bryce.

To write something like „panic sprawling“ should disqualify this guy from any serious discussion. But what to say, neckbeard trolls are a special kind of sPeCiAl!

I thought evolve legit lost to lentz

Ilia doesn’t seem to stick to guys as much.

He has some very good scrambles though.

That guy is HEAVILY biased in favour of Muslim fighters I wouldn’t take him too seriously.

Diego Lopes is one of the best grapplers in the sport and Evloev handled him just fine. But keep playing this silly game if you want. Topuria is a great fighter but he's quickly becoming ridiculously overrated with these brain dead hot takes. Pretty soon you'll have people claiming Topuria is a better grappler than Islam.

Topuriev will not get outwrestled by any FW.
