I love superhero films but there are too many of them now and it's not going to slowdown anytime with DC entering the game.

You know what I miss? 3 hour + movies that had incredible stories with badass action sequences.

I recently finished watching Battle of the Bastards and it made me think about how much I miss seeing these kinds of battles on the big screen.

Compare Battle of the Bastards to Captain America: Civil War. To me, I was on the edge of my seat during Game of Thrones and during Civil War I just kept thinking wow awesome action but these guys are just goofing around with each other.

There was something so much more spectacular about watching a 3 hour movie about characters you care about going to war against each other with nothing but a sword in their hands.

Does that movie about Moses count? It was directed by Ridley Scott.

As for tv shows, Vikings on History is good. There was a really good battle in Last Kingdom too.

you should watch Barbians Rasing on History Channel.

Thanks I'll check that out. Is it a full tv show or a mini-series?

Its a mini series. they only released 3 so far. Each on is bout hour and half and cover differnt Barbians leaders. Its still pretty new and just starting airing

Guns are more popular now and people don't like beheading unless you are in Mexico or the middle east.

Exactly, Civil Dispute is just a friendly sparring match.

There was Apocalyto? That is sword and sandal, meso murican style.

Also we had Dracula untold with Luke Evans. That had sword battles.

The chinese have been putting out those epic ancient battle movies.

Marco Polo on Netflix has this

There is going to be the Assassin's Creed Movie coming out

Robin HOod with Russell Crowe was not that long ago.

Also we had 300 and 300 Rise of Eva Green's sugar tits

There was the Ironclad films not too long ago

Also there is Vikings on TV, Last KIngdom on TV, Beowulf on TV, The musketeers on TV

Be careful what you wish for. Michael Bay might just do the remakes. Not enough explosions in the originals, you see.

There has been the Snow White films, two of them, and the Maleficent movie

Did you forget Exodus Gods and Kings with C Bale?

What about Pompeii with Jon Snow?

And the Hobbit Series, on top of the Lord of the rings

Dracula Untold was actually some good shit

Super underrated

Goof

the last hobbit had a great battle even of the films weren't so good.

Epics are not super common. The cinema relies on brands at the moment. Movies like those are a gamble. I did hear they are doing a Ben-Hur remake but I don't think it's high budget.

The Last Samurai, The Patriot, and Troy have some of the elements of the two you mentioned. Just not as well done.

I also am with you on the super hero thing not being the same. Something about combat that looks real and gritty, it just pulls me in more to the movie. I was on the edge of my seat eyes glued to the tv watching the Battle of the Bastards. A Super Hero flick I'm like cool cgi but not all that impressed, kinda felt the same way for the Dany scene with the Dragons. Jon Snow in the middle of that battlefield merking fools, climbing out of the pile of bodies, chasing Ramsy, now that shit was intense.
