Why are there fighters in teh UFC with less than 10 pro fights?

They will fight for shit pay

And the UFC stopped giving a fuck about actually pursuing the best talent in the world once they started getting guaranteed contracts.

It's a fucking disgrace. I agree with you on that

If I am not mistaken this weekend card is at the Apex, right?

That is basically regional tier mma under the "UFC" name because whoever worked out their last contract (on espn side) was fucking retarded are failed to stipulate a sufficient level of quality.

Remember back in the day companies like Bellator did their "Contender series" ???
Imo most APEX cards and small market fight nights are basically regional mma which is passed off as "UFC" because they found a loophole which didn't enforce quality control, allowing them to sell dogshit sandwhichs as "UFC"
Thats quite relative to say. I know fighters which fought for 100-500 euro in "top 5 promotions" in world. So 12/12k is not really shit pay, atleast not for everyone. Especially if u dont "waste" xx% on "fancy camp" + U should be able land sponsorships more easily if u are signed by UFC.

On otherside MMA fighters should make more money, but there first needs to be pressure from other promotions which will be willing to "overpay" UFC. Tho on another "otherside" u have fighters like Shemrock which was reportedly making 30-40k per fight in Oktagon and rather signed 12/12 with UFC.

Lesnar got in UFC after only one fight. And a title match after going 1-1 in UFC.

Sounds like you're living in 2007 or something. They have what close to 1k fighters these days? Theyre not all gonna be top guys. He'll they weren't all top guys back then. They need guys for fight night cards

Cause newbs are ecstatic about $12k to show up and make weight, get one free fight-kit outfit, and that prestigious 30% OFF Venum coupon

They will literally try and die in the cage for that shiat

Once they get ranked, they earn more, become divas, and want multiple belts

Dana isn’t with that noise

1.) This isn't boxing where you need to go 20-0 vs cans before you can step up to the big show
2.) Heavyweight badly needs new blood
Khabib went 15-0 against Dagestani Taxi Cab Drivers before he made it to the big show.

UFC wants the contender series to become the primary pipeline to the big show. They control who fights, who gets signed, and can determine to some degree how said fighters are perceived. Come in, get a knockout, sign for peanuts, get marketing push, sink or swim afterward. Even if you swim, the escalating contracts won't become a problem for the UFC unless you hang around for 10 plus years. If you cross them, or you are too big outside of their sphere, you get the Talbott treatment.

we just signing everyone now?!

9 fighters on Saturday's card with under 10 pro fights. Send those cans back to the minor leagues and make them earn it like they had to back in da day. How many fights until a fighters is worthy of the Big Leagues (aka U Fight Cheap) in your opinion? I think 10-15 should be the bare minimum.
You literally watch Power Slap

All kinds of benefits to it from a UFC standpoint. They'll work for peanuts. It lessens the likelihood that the fighter has lost to someone in any rival promotion of consequence, so that rival doesn't have a way to promote that their fighter is better than the UFC's. And, realistically, if they have so few fights it means they have the qualities they can sell, and you best believe they have some of them in that UFCPI, giving them every advantage possible to succeed. Those are the types they invest in, if they're not really the best they will keep helping them in every way possible outside the cage, and if the advantages don't actually make them a good fighter, they will match them accordingly in the cage to give the illusion that they did.

Yea the ufc switched their business model awhile ago and are now taking fighters much earlier in their career and trying to build them while they fight in the ufc instead of letting them fight for years on the regional scene. They kinda had to do it due to the amount of shows they were contracted to put on a year.

PrideFC did it exclusively as opponents to pad certain fighters records, they were considered the big leagues.

and you are what undefeated against taxi drivers on parking lot at gas station

Cain had 2 fights

Jones had 6

JDS had 7

Holloway had 3

GSP had 9

Usman had 6

Weidman had 4

I am sure I could keep going for awhile

Jon came into the UFC with 6 fights.

Just to go onto the other end of the spectrum…

….CM Punk came into with NO fights.

You’ve been here long enough bro you know whats up
Khamzat 6-0 when he signed
Joshua Van 7-1
Aspinal 7-2

Three current champions.

idk if this is the reason but in the long term it's better to secure a fighter when he still has 20+ fights in him: they'll pay peanuts initially so if he doesn't deliver as expected they'll just fire him.
we've seen too many times already established fighters came to the ufc when they are already washed.

This doesnt bother me.

You can look amazing enough in your 3rd or 4th fight that you might wanna snap someone up before someone else gets them.
