Economy Why are red states broke?

lol sounds like something a brokie would say.

Let’s compare quality of life for blue states vs red states?

Let’s compare average wealth blue states vs red states.

There’s zero answer still why deep leaning red Mississippi is consistently a shit hole and a dem hasn’t represented their state in 30 plus years. They can’t blame the Dems over there
Yeah I live in the GVA in BC, no brokies out here. Google our cost of living.

it's pretty obvious that low cost of living correlates with low income as well as low quality of life for residents. basically all of the metrics show the worst places to live in america are the most right-leaning and the best places to live lean the most left.

She lost. Get over it. ;)

Youre Canadian commenting on America. Youre a step below, no need to talk on this subject
That's fine I know you're upset with your beloved Kamala getting wrecked, but the states and cities with the most violent crime and homelessness are the bluest cities and states so yeah I guess you sure showed me.

SO why are states that have been voting Republican for 30 plus years still so broke ? I’m really confused here

Who cares? The Republicans haven't been in charge for 30 years, so even the times when the democrats were in charge of the economy, they were still among the poorest States.

In a situation like that, you may as well vote for the Party with whom your personal values most align.

Yeah but if you’ve been a shithole and republicans have led your state for 30 years wouldn’t you think trying a different flavor would make sense?

But your Canadian and your President is a fanny. Your opinion means nothing here. Let the Americans speak on the subject you know nothing about. I know it’s your dream to live here instead of that shit hole you call a country

Not if the democratic candidate spent $1 Billion in three months and still ended up $20 Million in the red.

If Harris couldn't even pay her own campaign staff, why should she be trusted with the US economy? That doesn't make sense.

I’m talking at the state level. I’m not talking about Harris and her campaign. Let’s rewind,

The republicans have been in charge of those states at the STATE level for 30 years and those states continually rank in the bottom for GDP, median income, edumacation. And your answer is they’ll always be that way so may as well vote for something that aligns with your values?

I don’t want to derail that topic I can go into how Trump cut taxes and increased spending ballooning the national debt faster than any president in a four year span but that’s besides the point.

And again, so what? If they had voted democrat at the State level, do you think all those cities would have turned into Silicon Valley or Hollywood clones?

Some areas are harder to live in than others, and always will be, no matter who's in charge. Edinburgh is never going to have the same financial clout as London, no matter how much the SNP shrieks about, "Scotland's Oil!"

You're*

And nothing I said was untrue. And while we have Trudeau, you have a homeless epidemic that would make Vancouver blush. Also the murder rates in your 3 most violent cities probably top all of Canada annually.

Why are the states that bottom 6 in terms of GDP red states?

GDP isn't debt. It's all blue states going broke. Obviously you started this thread as a knee jerk reaction to what I posted in this other thread:
The fact she raised a record amount of money in a Presidential campaign, which normally lasts over a year, and yet still left a 3-month campaign in debt, is the most perfect microcosm for everything wrong with Democratic management of government and spending inefficiency one could possibly imagine. It's like something a Hollywood scriptwriter would come up with. $450K/day burned on the sphere. LMAO.

It reminds me of a recent CNBC video I watched. California and New York are the wealthiest states in the nation, also the #1 and #4 per capita, so explain to me how they can't pay their debts? You think to yourself in exasperation: make it make sense. Then you hear how Kamala ran her campaign into debt, and suddenly it does.

(Least Debt) Blue > Yellow > Orange > Red (Most Debt)

Compare our 2024 electoral map (while reminding yourself that Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are battleground states that have voted for the Democrat in the majority of the past 12 Presidential elections, and currently all have sitting Democratic governors).

Your point that it doesn't make sense why the richest states have a lot of debt doesn't make much sense when we're talking about American states as we know how the US government deals with debt. The US as a country has an extremely high debt to GDP ratio and it's one of the top 10 richest nations per capita in the world. That's not a Republican vs Democrat thing either since Trump managed to increase that debt a ton in his first term, despite spending most of it in a global economic boom.

WTF does this have to do with the question of which states are in debt? You can have a high GDP, and still be going broke because you're overleveraged due to an extraordinarily high debt. Illinois paying 7% of its annual budget just to cover the cost of interest on its pensions shortfall is not a healthy state economy.

FYI, while it's unrelated, our national interest on our debt is 23% of our annual budget. That is far, far above the optimal range. So despite all our wealth, no, it's not an okay figure. We're running up a tab that at some point is going to snowball into something that causes a massive depression.

Look at the states with the most debt, both state and individuals.

The answer to your question was clearly stated in my post so I have no idea why you are asking that. The only thing that would make sense if you disagreed was to just say why you think so. You were the one saying that it didn't make sense that rich states had trouble paying their debt and I pointed out that it makes sense since it's general American policy, from both parties, and thus it's pretty expected. That's well established on the national scale where both parties have frequently taken turns running the same thing. If you're trying to say that there's zero correlation between Republicans and Democrats on state level and national level I guess I'll just say that we end it before it gets sillier.

Wasn't Trump still sending emails begging for funds after he lost the election?

Weird point of contention, to be honest. Trump has never stopped the fleecing, why would you trust him with the economy? His appetite for his supporters money is endless.
