Social Why Americans are so Fat

Being in the Mayberry is like being at work in Germany.
The OT is like making jokes with your friends in the balkan.

Probably the high altitude
in general I think we are also more physically active.
denver is a pretty green city with bike paths and trails all over and the burbs are actually in the mountains or at their foot so hiking, trail running, cycling etc... are all on the table. in the winter skiing or boarding.

plus many places and neighborhoods have group activity stuff. for example there were neighborhood bike cruises.

when I lived in boulder that was magnified a bunch cyclists everywhere, hiking all year and skiing etc..

also many places in co tend to eat pretty healthy
or at least organic

In truth, I may have been a bit harsh, but I don’t like blanket statements unless we’re discussing blankets that is.
I live in Norcal in the Bay Area and people here seem to be obsessed with fitness and diet.
Maybe it’s the high education level not to be snooty.
Running cycling skiing, hiking, gym work and vegan/carnivore diets, etc.
It’s ridiculous sometimes.

Like everything else foreigners claim about "Americans" when they don't actually know what they're talking about, you're probably confusing poor people with the whole country. Middle class and up are normal to fit, with a few fat people, but mostly normal weight to fit. Our poor people have most of the obesity, commit most of the crime, are bad drivers who smash into things and still drive around in a car with the door caved in or bumper hanging off, most of them have pit bulls, can't seem to hold down a job for any extended period, and they're mostly single moms and deadbeat dads who keep having like 9 kids with several people when they couldn't even afford the first one.
To have a total population over 45% obesity, you must have a hell of a lot of poor people then...

I didn't articulate myself well

it's more than just that
it's also the infrastructure. they have the infrastructure to facilitate walking , biking and outdoor living.

for example I grew up going between Denver and ABQ. as you can see from the map NM is in pretty bad shape. ABQ is also pretty high altitude and is at the base of the mountains with city spreading up the sides. but they don't have all he same things to facilitate activity. there are way less trails, parks and sidewalks. the ABQ public transport blows (at least it did 16 years ago). basically you needed a car and all that outdoorsy culture existed to a much smaller percent

I gotta correct myself, just the obese americans look more unhealthy than obese europeans. Obviously just some Americans are obese. I seen fit americans too in Germany / Croatia. But struggling to walk is a different level of having let yourself go. But no suprise. Sweet and fatty food will add up quick. If you aren't into sports you can gain weight so quick. Than you are screwed and it's hard to get out of it. I relate.
You have control but circumstances and temptations are worse in America. Different industry. Also there seems to be more fruit and vegetables everywhere in europe, especially in less developed parts of europe it feels like it's free, like it just grows there.
