Social Why Americans are so Fat

This particular kind of mindset seems to be buoyed by that stereotypical boomer mindset of 'when men were still men', and that crying or going to therapy is for pussies. The same goes for the notion of physically disciplining kids.

Bullying isn't a 'necessary' evil, people tend to conflate that with the importance of building resilience in young people. You can get tough without being ostracized and traumatized by your peers. Thinking that bullying kids is beneficial to them to combat obesity is just grotesquely ignorant and goes directly against any medical or pedagogic stance on the matter, no matter how many personal anecdotes the suggesting party can ham up.
I'd rather bully the parents

I have a musician friend who tours, he's a fat fuck (don't tell him i said that) but he claims that he eats the exact same things in europe and always loses weight. That's what makes me think a factor is what is in our food.

Lots of anecdotes similar to this.

Tons of Americans travel to Europe, Latin America, or Asia, eat the same or more than they do in the US and either lose weight or stay the same

Only a personal observation but I see a big divide across the political spectrum.

The libs I know are all pretty fit. The conservatives I know are mostly pretty fat.

I don't judge the fatties. Just an observation.
I see a bit of both. Libs aren’t fat unless they’re super lib. They are the side that said being fit is far right though. I don’t see very many muscular or truly athletic libs though. Nearly zero but I am in Kentucky

So they thrive where the choices are made for them. They could just eat better food here, it's available. Going to the local chain restaurant and getting chicken smothered in diabetes sauce is not the same as prepared in a way that isn't detrimental to your health.

Or Olive Garden soup, salad and bread sticks is not a light lunch. Go somewhere not shitty and get soup that isn't going to salt cure your internal organs.

When I was a kid, I wanted to go eat McDonald's or ice cream more like my friends. As an adult, I'm glad my parents weren't retarded.

The habit of eating actual food stuck with me though. It's sometimes funny when people stop by unannounced, I don't have any packaged snacks or anything like that. Everything says no to "I can make some food".
I did too.....and I still do too

Really? Every libs rally I have ever seen only features the most unhealthy looking individuals ever. Fat or skinny fat in the worst way with almost yellow skin hue from all the cigarette smoking.

I have no idea how conservatives look, maybe just as bad. But the libs look comically unhealthy.

I feel like a lot of people have had such poor education for generations that they don't know what to eat. Then they get kids and the kids learn to eat what the parents give them and the circle continues.

It's so sad when you see parents and their kids are like 8yo and already fat.

Like what the fuck. Setting that kid up for a shitty childhood.
It's not just a shitty childhood but a shitty life. Once you're trapped into being a fat person with a warped conception of food, it's extremely difficult to get out of it. Most of those fat kids will grow up to be fat adults with fat kids themselves.

Part of the reason I feel I can speak on this topic is because I grew up fat. I had no conception of healthy eating, hated fruit and veggies, didn't work out so I had to make a huge turnaround when I realized I wanted to become a fighter. So I pay attention to this stuff. Being abroad really opened my eyes as well.

Americans are getting dumber and fatter! Higher BMI and lower IQ

Real Sherdogger checking in. Also I live in LA health and beauty are commonplace here. There’s a gym and Pilates studio every 5 feet. TS you said your friend moved to Virginia but if you go to SoCal, Miami, NY you will see scores of people in incredible shape.

Even when living in LA I met people who don't drink water all the time.

Like grownass adult humans beings who hadn't drank water in years.

Any time they were thirsty it was some kind of sugar water. Soda, juices, heavily sugared coffee drinks (to the point it's just hot or iced sugar fat water with a tiny bit of coffee), etc. Some of them eventually transition to diet sodas so they're drinking fake sugar water.

But ask them to drink a pint of water while thirsty and they look at you like you're an alien.

I'd say there are extremes on both sides. A lot of upperclass yuppies who are into yoga and running tend to be more liberal but then a lot of younger male gymcel types obsessed with being jacked lean conservative. And there are fat fucks on both sides.

That woman who sued lyft because she was too fat to get into the car was definitely woke. I knew a fat latina who told me being thin is a beauty standard made up by white colonialists lol. Anything to not take personal responsibility.

I always said if America ever ends up in a civil war between the left and right, it'd end very quickly once both sides realize it's hard to get cheese burgers and chilly fries it in a war. And that in a war, you actually have to run around a bit

Yeah for sure I just feel more for them when they're kids because they have essentially zero way out of it. And there's bullying and whatnot when you're a kid. When they become adults they can start taking things into their own hands at least even if it's a hard thing to do and change their life but you'll never get your childhood back.

I'm sorry you went through that, it must've sucked. Good on you for getting through it.

Damn. I knew a guy who literally never drinks water and I thought he was an anomaly. His fridge was stocked up with gatorade, soda, and beer. Felt like I was in a scene of Idiocrasy. Can't believe there are others like him.

It's a minority of people in the hippy / vanity driven parts of LA but gets more common as you get into the working class cities in the desert. In a lot of communities in the south east, water drinkers become the minority and more people are drinking soda and sweet tea all day.

I was never morbidly obese like those people who need mobility scooters but it was crazy to think how weird my relationship with food and my body used to be. The first time I had a six pack I couldn't believe it. I still struggle with remnants of my past though. I'm still hooked on soda and it's the one thing I couldn't give up. Quitting alcohol was so much easier.

yup, my doc told me that, any way you cut it, having excess mass isnt good for us, be it muscle or fat.
So I just threw that out to talk shit (which I tend to do a lot) but I suppose a case can be made that carrying extra mass is harder on your heart even if muscle. But I would also contend that if you are natty and staying within your genetic limits, you aren't going to put much undue stress in your heart as you would if you were on the sauce.

If anything carrying a bit extra muscle is good for burning extra fat, since muscle is metabolically expensive to maintain.

Sugar-free sodas wont do it for you? Granted I'm sure the artificial sweeteners aren't great for anyone but seems like an easy way to not drink a bunch of calories and sugar.
