What SG's would ou put above Thompson outside of Harden?
I don't think you'll hear an argument that Curry is a great player but Harden has meant more to his team this season. GS is battling for the 8th spot if you take Curry off the team and Houston is battling for the number 1 pick if you take him off the Rockets
there's a handful of SGs I take over Thompson this season: Harden, Wad, Butthead, Montel, DeRozcan, and perhaps even Oladipo and Tyreke
dont even get me wrong, I can totally see why people are feeling Curry. He's having potentially the greatest shooting season ever along w/ Korver (although curry's a volume shooter, huge difference).
I just see the sportwriters/broadcasters picking Harden. Everyone hates him for his foul drawing and shit, but he is literally carrying that team like nobody i've ever seen. this is like Dirk when the Mavs won the title, but he has a much worse team (i.e. no prime Tyson Chandler)
Who I take at SG depends on who else I have on the team. If I have a Steph Curry at PG, I don't take anyone over Thompson. If I have a can at PG, there's a handful of SGs I take over Thompson this season: Harden, Wad, Butthead, Montel, DeRozcan, and perhaps even Oladipo and Tyreke depending on how terrible my PG is (keep in mind this is just for this season, if we're talking about building a team for the future I take Thompson over everyone).
I don't think Harden means more to his team. Curry impacts the game on offense more than any player in the league. His gravitational pull on the defense is probably the greatest in NBA history considering how far he stretches the D. I highly disagree that GSW would be competing for the 8th seed without Curry; I believe they'd have perhaps the worst offense in the NBA without Curry.
GSW net Offensive Rating with Curry on the floor vs off: +16.2
HOU net Offensive Rating with Harden on the floor vs off: +11.1
Then there's what I consider to be a huge difference between the strength of the Warriors and Rockets. Houston is a good team but I don't think anyone really considers them a title contender (Vegas has their odds at 20/1), meanwhile the Warriors are shaping up to be one of the strongest teams in NBA history. Even with a healthy Dwert, the gap between the Warriors and Rockets is far greater than the 10.5 games that separate them in the standings imo
C'mon son. None of those guys outside of a healthy Wade even belong in the discussion regardless of shitty pg play. Derozan? Tyreke Evans? Fucking lol. Those two are black holes. If you pass the ball to them you need a search warrant to get it back.
Look at all the talent on the team. Even without Curry their roster looks as good as OKC without KD and Ibaka and NO.
If Dwight is healthy Houston can definitely come out of the West. It wouldn't surprise me if the Spurs, Clips, or Griz did either. I'm not sold on GS at all to be honest.
This is coming from someone who is a big fan of Curry's game. I thought he was going to be a glorified dale Ellis and he proved me wrong
Curry makes everyone around him that much more of a threat. Defenses pay so much attention to him that it creates open looks from deep and at the rim when scrambling defenses are forced to shift and rotate after Curry bends them with his gravitational pull. Every Warriors rotation player shoots markedly better with Curry on the floor.
Golden State's offense falls from a 113.8 offensive rating (the best mark in the league) to 100.8 without him (the equivalent of the Denver Nuggets' 23rd-ranked figure). That's a substantial decline.
Curry's Warriors actually do worse with him off the floor (-16.3 points per 100 possessions) than when Harden sits on the Rockets (-10.3 points per 100 possessions). The offensive drop-off is roughly the same for both players (-13 points per 100 possessions for Curry, and -14 points per 100 possessions for Harden), but the difference comes on the defensive end —
