Who's the smartest MMA fighter

Josh Neer, the dentist.
# 2 on the list I posted earlier in this thread actually is a dentist.

Angelito Manguray may be a better lover than a fighter. Or at least a better healer.

Now in his 40s, he's dropped three straight while fighting in and around his native Philippines. But at least he doesn't have to worry about getting a tooth knocked out, as he's a practicing dentist in his spare time.

Apparently Manguary trains early in the morning and evening, and sees patients on a regular 9-5 schedule.

That's just one factor of intelligence. Overall intelligence factors everything in, and deals more with your thought process/problem solving/learning than actual memorization intelligence. You can be intelligent in one type but not in another, it doesn't mean you are not intelligent. Intelligence takes shape in many forms. It's not a one size fits all.

This is why classical pianist are considered geniuses, same with chess players - there are different kinds of intelligence.
IQ factors are things like working memory, processing speed, visual-spatial processing and verbal comprehension (but all are just different types of information processing)
But i'd disagree to say they're forms of intelligence, maybe it shows up in different people as different things but it's pretty consistent amongst humans

I don't know. Just because he was a teacher doesn't automatically mean he is smart. I would still put Overeem and Izzy as being smarter than Rich. Also, negative on the Chuck.

I would generally assume someone is stupid if they’re a teacher.

I think in the case of Rich he actually had a math MS though and he’s for sure a smart guy.

It cracks me up that Forrest, Chuck, and Hughes got UFC jobs as retirement plans and only Forrest had the brains to show up.

I think being intelligent is very important. I would put it in the top 3 traits of a fighter.

Physically gifted
Toughness
Intelligence

To all the folks bringing up Rich Franklin being a teacher, you must realize teachers are the bottom 1/3rd of college graduates. You either do or you teach.
Did you also know a lot Of “doers” become teachers, instructors (Anderson Silva) or professors later on to pass on the knowledge. So before you shit on “teachers”..

IMHO its Conor and its not even close
his ability to sell fights is (was) really impressive, especially given hes limited arsenal
he made WAY more money than MUCH BETTER competition. That counts for something.
Mike Tyson still holds some the biggest ppv records in boxing, you think he's smarter than Wladimir Klitschko ?

Forrest actually lives in Vegas. So he actually can show up.

He was a teacher....like someone who is incharge of teaching others....i think he would be quite smart...u cant teach others something you dont know yourself....

Also chuck has a degree in accounting....literally could of been in the office of UFC instead of fighting for them ...dudes smart just likes to fight
Not a knock on Rich at all (actually met him at his juice bar when it was open - super nice guy), but more a knock on the US education system. It doesn’t take much comparatively to be a teacher in the US. Not to say there aren’t highly qualified teachers in the US... but it’s not the certification process that got them there as there are plenty of teachers that aren’t very bright. I see your point though. Yes, one would have to have a certain level of education to teach. As a point of reference, I’m average at best in intelligence. I took the certification test to teach in California with zero studying/preparation. Got in the 90’s. I remember thinking “Man, if a dumbshit like me can pass this without studying.. The US is doomed.”

Michael Bisping

dude dropped out of high school with zero fucks

talks like a college graduate at least (vocab and line of logic on point/good at analyzing)

his arguments are usually on point with solid premises/conclusions and rarely succumbs to weak minded fallacies (ad hominems/revert to authority/strawman etc), solid awareness and bullshit radar Street smarts way above average

dudes basking in the fruits of his intelligence right now

on his podcast, I swear he's on adderrall

I was looking at the Bryce Mitchell thread and seeing his list of reading books, a whole bunch of conspiracy theory books.

Now I realize these guys are fighters and their intelligence isn't what makes them money, but is there a highly intelligent fighter amongst the UFC roster? Is there someone a cut above the rest in terms of mental capability?

I would put Overeem out there as he is incredibly well-spoken and thought out in his interviews. I would also throw Izzy in there with how quick witted he is. Like him or hate him, he is incredibly sharp.

Retired but Shale Sonnen. By far the sharpest mind in MMA ever.

Part-time troll and full-time shill. Need brainpower to juggle all these jobs.
