This KO via Slap in a Sumo competition went viral.. And I cannot help thinking this is where Dana White's Slap promotion needs to go with weight classes.

Aren't headbutts virtually legal in sumo? Can't imagine a slap KO would be a no contest.Did the guy actually win via KO? I'm assuming it was a NC or something
I really don't know. I don't follow sumo, and I thought it was grappling only since that's all they ever seem to do. Was hoping for a quick reply on this oneAren't headbutts virtually legal in sumo? Can't imagine a slap KO would be a no contest.
Slapping is legal in sumo though I believe trying to knock your opponent out with slaps is frowned upon.I really don't know. I don't follow sumo, and I thought it was grappling only since that's all they ever seem to do. Was hoping for a quick reply on this one
Makes sense. The guy seemed shockedSlapping is legal in sumo though I believe trying to knock your opponent out with slaps is frowned upon.
No such thing as a NC in sumo. Closest thing would be a torinaoshi (rematch) but that's reserved for situations where both wrestlers hit the ground or step out of the ring at the exact same time.Did the guy actually win via KO? I'm assuming it was a NC or something
Yes headbutts are legal. I can't say if they happen on purpose but they do happen accidentally quite a bit.Aren't headbutts virtually legal in sumo? Can't imagine a slap KO would be a no contest.
Okay I found more information on this. This was Kaiseijo vs. Wakamiyabi in the third division (makushita), on day 5 of the July tournament, Kaiseijo was the winner, and the official kimarite was tsukiotoshi (thrust down).Did the guy actually win via KO? I'm assuming it was a NC or something

Losses by disqualification can happen, typically if one guy grabs the other guy's topknot, which isn't allowed. Slapping is 100% legal.
The guy who got KO'd lost but not because he got KO'd, he lost because he hit the ground first.
There are dozens of official kimarite (winning techniques) - I'd look up the one that was declared for this match but I don't know the names of the wrestlers in the tweet since I can't read Japanese characters.
