Who here is still Catholic??

I'll pray for you TS and the rest of you heathens.

Yes it tends to be the case. I noticed this when I lived in Singapore, there isn't a long history of any Christianity there, so most of those Catholics and other christians are either converts or the children of converts.
From what I experienced - they know and practice their faith so much more thoroughly than the Catholics where I'm from (England) which is mostly Irish families who've been Catholic for centuries.

Don't want to offend but it seems to be a trend that a high proportion of Muslim extremists are converts too.

I agree with you to an extent, but still from personal experience I'd say that the catholic church is much more moderate than a whole lot of other Christian religions.

OH YEAH.
It's because the magisterium isn't radical. It's pretty moderate and often progressive to be honest.
I have a soft spot for Catholicism. Most of my favorite thinker are Catholic, and the theological umbrella is so big that there is a lot there for everyone.

Hmm, most of my favourite thinkers are secular

Well when I found out the Catholic church/school I attended during my junior high years had a priest who was involved in a huge sex scandal and was swindling money from parents/churchgoers for his own personal use was more than enough for me to bid them "adios"

Here's a link to said scandal. As you can see its not pretty

I got my baptism, communion, confirmation and haven't been back to church since except for weddings. Their schools here are very good, and they do a lot of good charitable works....but of course there is kiddy diddling and other bits that make the whole thing look like a racket. Either way I don't care enough if they have me registered or not to put any effort into doing anything about it.

Seems to be true. Pretty big divide in the U.S. between Catholic places up north like New York and Boston and the South with their whole Jesus on a T-Rex thing or whatever going on.

Still Catholic yes, haven't been to mass in years though

Wow, I'm a protestant christian, not a catholic, but that seems like a mess.

I honestly had never heard of something like this from any church and it's rather amusing.

I hope you can get this sorted out if you really want to unregister and don't have to go through all that mess just to get it done.

I am in cincy, and just a Bit south from me is the creation museum... Holy crap that stuff is weird.

To ts: going back to our convo from a couple pages back, how does your government deal with converts? Because if you didn't unregister but converted, then you are counted double, assuming they are just going by the numbers and documents the church gives them. Then you end up with more people counted than the population of your country.

Lol I just had the complete opposite experience. Im getting married at the end of the year so my fiance and I tried to register at a nearby catholic church. They ignored the first request then after leaving about 20 messages they finally tell us that we cant register because we are in another church's area.

I like to go to church and shake everyone's hand.

I'm getting married next year, but I got my gf to resign from church too*. Having some weirdo talk about Yahweh would just make the whole ceremony awkward imo.

*She resigned on December 31st so she'll avoid the taxes this year, booyah!

yesterday on the news:

signing out of the catholic church should be easier

no joke

It should be without a doubt. But I also think that your government should make the rules of affiliation a little more uniform and proper since it's connected to taxes, subsides, funding, etc.

The big difference between teachers doing this as someone else compared it to, is that the Church has consistently covered it up to protect their image.

There`s a diddler priest in the church, the church hierarchy finds out about it, what do they do...they send the diddler away to another church in another area to diddle more kids.

It`s like what happened at Penn state, that red headed retard assistant walked in on Sandusky fucking a little boy in the ass in the shower and he wasn`t the only one who knew in the organization, all the higher ups did. That`s the truly disturbing thing about what happened, these ppl knew exactly what was going on but covered it up. That`s why Penn state and Paterno who were thought could do no wrong are now demonized by the media as they should be. There`s a reason why Paterno died so quickly after this came out, the shame and his destroyed legacy hastened the inevitable.

The thing is that that was one monster and one situation, the Catholic Church has done this repeatedly for multiple monsters and that`s so morally bankrupt it`s incomprehensible.

The thing is Catholic belief isn't necessarily the same as the Catholic Church. A person can easily believe in Catholicism and hate what the Church does. Most do. It's not like Catholics are not caring about this. People have been using the world's religions to get rich, gain power, and commit atrocities for thousands of years. It doesn't mean the actual religion is responsible. There are plenty of reasons to hate Catholicism and Christianity. I'm not a Christian. But I'm not dumb enough to equate their religion to their corrupt leaders. It would be like hating the physical sport of mma and boxing because you hate fight promoters. Or like hating education because of corrupt school officials.

The thing is that those corrupt leaders who`ve been corrupt since the start and have been corrupt for all of it`s history are the ones who shaped the religion as we know it, they`re the ones who edited and amended the bible, they decided what made the cut and what didn`t. They decided on what the church`s stance on a wide variety of issues are.

The religion as we know it was built and molded in a specific way by corrupt ppl. Why believe in something that`s built on lies told by dubious ppl with an obvious agenda.

Jesus himself wasnt a christian and certainly wouldnt be one today.
