Who has the Highest Fight IQ in MMA history?

1) You picked two PED users.
2) Where was McGregor's fight IQ against Poirier and Khabib? McG was great at 145 because of his power. At 155, where that power alone wasn't enough, his fight IQ was exposed, if anything.

GSP was a very high IQ fighter. Valentina Shevchenko is on another planet. But picking champs is easy. Among non-champs, Carlos Condit was VERY smart in the octagon.

And I dogged Jon Jones for his drug use, but he could do anything he wanted in the Octagon for about ten years. And honestly, Fedor couldn't have been stupid in there, or else all his fights were fixed.

And this is going old school, but Frank Shamrock was a monster. And a very smart fighter.

Jones
His adaptability, ring and opponent awareness is unprecedented.

It's crazy how none of that intelligence seems to translate to real life common sense for him.

gsp. took the fight wherever he had the advantage.

Yup. GSP is the answer. None of that, "prove yourself by playing into your opponent's strength" BS.

Anderson is not the answer. He was more the type to fight wherever the fight goes and take chances. When you don't have the wrestling to control where the fight goes, you just have to be really good wherever it does go.

Everyone used to call him Mystic Mac because he could predict all the fights so precisely.

Jon Jones even though it's a slight contradiction. He fought to his opponents' strengths on purpose. Even when that would be at his disadvantage. You have to have extremely high fight IQ in order to still win like that.

Jones. He makes adjustment really well.

Usman is up there too. His fight strategies ensure dominant wins while taking the least damage, similar to Jones. He’s so versatile and well rounded that if he cant beat you on the feet, he’ll beat you on the ground. If he can’t get you to the ground, he’ll stuff u in the clinch or beat you on the feet.

Stipe too in the last 5 years. he’s very underrated with regards to fighter IQ. He finds a way to win.

a lot of other fighters can’t make the adjustments like the above three. They are versatile and well rounded and find ways to negate their opposition while dominating with the strength they needin that specific fight.
Usman, good call.. even when his striking was sub-par he was able to nullify his opponents striking advantage and now that he has striking we’re gonna see the best Usman yet against Colby

Volk is great at adapting and following a gameplan.

He cucked Aldo and fought his way back vsMAx after getting dropped and dropping 2 rounds

Jon jones and GSP are both at the top, with jones holding the edge. Jones IMO has the best fight IQ I have seen in the ufc. His ability to adapt and observation to see habits and exploit them is his biggest strength. In the Cormier fight jon could be heard telling Cormier his weaknesses, he is a very smart guy inside the cage. Outside he is a bit of a lunatic.

I think Jones would be a fantastic corner man as he is very astute, which I think is the reason it makes him so mischievous. He will straddle the rules to fuck with you, he arm grinds, shoulder strikes, and adapts very well even when he is losing on points. He does a good job understanding what needs to be done late in rounds and does not panic.
