Who has the better resume: Anthony Pettis or Shogun Rua?

Shogun's run through PRIDE and winning the UFC belt put him on top for me. Not to mention his incredible fights vs Hendo, which are two of the best fights ever.

Pettis is largely forgotten and it's a damn shame. That Showtime Kick in the final round of WEC ever was the best way to put WEC to bed. Those WEC fights were so damn good, and even Aldo wasn't the same after coming to the UFC, as great as his UFC run was.

I'm a poatan fan and I'd like to think I'm pretty rational but I don't think any of those guys other than wandy or randy would have much of a chance.

Rampage cannot deal with leg kicks and Im sure Poatan would abuse that and make short work of him. Vitor, Chuck, Lil log too small.

Rampage power bombed 9x ADCC champion Arona and slammed D1 Ryan Bader on his head- both of whom are much better grapplers than Alex. He'd do the same to Poatan. Poatan got out grappled by Izzy and Jan lol. Vitor, Chuck and Lil Nog were all better than 41 year old Journey man Jan too.

Explain to me how any of these are better wins than submitting Bendo.

Also finishing prime Wonderboy, Cowboy, etc. are definitely on the same level.
He named 3 guys that were ranked in the top 4 if not number 1. Wonderboy wasn't in his prime when Pettis fought him and Cowboy wasn't a top 4 guy either. Arona had just beaten number 1 Wanderlei so he was number 1, Machida was number 1 and Shogun vs Rampage was 2 fights after Rampage fought for the belt.

I just think vitor is very small at LHW. I just dont see how he closes the distance against alex without getting hurt bad.

Rampage has a path to win, but that powerbomb likely didn't come from grappling he initated, He was in some ones gaurd. A BJJ player, poatan isn't a BJJ player and this kind of helps Alex because he want's the fight standing.

these guys could ABSOLUTELY beat hill, jiri and jan though. I'll say that.

LHW's Alex could have problems with

Jones, Gus, Rumble, DC, Glover, Phil Davis.... Fighters who have chin and can grapple if they must.

Shogun:

Wins over Jackson, Nog, Overeem, Coleman,Liddell,Randleman,Machida, Griffin.... he also lost to some of these guys too.

Pettis:

wins: Ben Henderson,Olivera, Cerrone?

I don't see how any comparison can be made reall, Shogun was by far the better fighter.

Yea I think that Alex would win some of these fights. He's definitely good enough to do that. But the comparison was to young Overeem who had mixed results against these guys. Wouldn't shock me if Alex had mixed results too.

Gilbert melendez, Wonderboy...

Shogun imo. Guy won the Pride Grand Prix by beating Rampage, Lil Nog, Overeem and Arona. Then he went on to beat Lidell and a prime Machida for the UFC strap. I think people forget that there was a time when Pride had better fighters than the UFC.

Young Overeem was more like Econoreem in the UFC. Got knocked out multiple times but also completely capable of surprising a high level fighter.

Young Reem submitted Vitor Belfort. The only other fighter to submit Vitor is Jon Jones.

Reem also submitted Igor who was no easy out.

Beat Sergei Kharitonov a few months after getting knocked out by Shogun at LHW.

Submitted Roman Zentsov who wasn't no easy out either.

Reem was always damn good but was a Young man who fought in the most stacked LHW era ever.

If Poatan had to fight prime Rampage, Arona, Lil Nog, Chuck, Wand, Randy and Vitor I'm pretty sure he'd lose a couple too.
i forget the exact stat, but reem was one of the most accurate strikers in ufc history, possibly even the most accurate. no slouch on the ground either. his problem is he gasses, and his chin. aside from that, he's always been a quality win.

Pettis.

First to beat Benson in the WEC and First to finish/beat benson in UFC

First to submit Melenedez

Sub win over Oliveria

Maybe the greatest one round performance in MMA history against cerrone
Dont foeget, also the only person to KO wonderboy in any combat sport. Thompson is a whole weight class higher and the difference in Size was obvious mid fight.

Considering 2 factors:-
-Woodley and Till clipped him pretty hard and couldn’t put him to sleep.
-Sherdoggers been sucking off Thompson’s striking for a decade, and still some call him MMA striking GOAT whatever that means.

Shogun IMO. Fought and beat better competition. Bendo wasn't nothing but a decision machine, Cerrone was a punching bag at best when Pettis beat him, and Melendez was on the downward spiral too.

Gilbert melendez, Wonderboy...
Not really comparable to Shogun's wins. All the wins I listed for Shogun were Champions. Wonderboy is a one denominational solid fighter but not really ever a real contender. Melendez was a Strikeforce champ but fought basically nobody but Masvidal there and got owned by almost everyone he fought in the UFC.

Wonderboy was washed up and hasn't won a meaningful fight in years. It's a good win for Pettis but not something that catapults him past Shogun.

Shogun beat Prime Machida 2x
Soccer kicked Prime Rampage to death
TKOd Arona when he was coming off a win over #1 ranked Wand
Beat prime Lil Nog in legendary fight
Smashed Overeem 2x. Overeem beat Kharitonov in his very next fight.

This isn't 145 Oliveira who got finished every other fight back then or old ass moldy Wonderbread

These were some of the best LHWs ever in their prime.

he lost to machida the first time.

and if you get to just give him wins, I get to just say wonderboy beat woodley twice and also till*

wonderboy had never ever been finished in combat. Pettis has finishes in 3 weight classes aswell, lets not detract from that.

Everyone agrees Shogun won that fight and was robbed. I don't know anyone who thought Wonderboy beat Woodley

Both are great. But Shoguns pride GP run was something special to watch.

wasnt gonna point it out but beating skinny reem aint shit. Everybody was ragdolling, knocking out and submitting him left and right. I’m not saying it should have been Ubereem but at least 2008 Reem or later.

Also, whats all this washed up bs, Pettis was just as passed it as him and much smaller. He was on his way out to PFL and fighting out his UFC contract.
Pettis beat Vicente Luque and Geiff Neal right after Showtime put him to sleep. So yes, context for context it is a lot more impressive than both cited Overeem wins combined.

🤡

"Skinny Reem" beat Sergei Kharitonov in his next fight after losing to Shogun.

"Skinny Reem" submitted Vitor Belfort. The only other person who submitted Vitor in over 40 fights is prime Jon Jones.

"Skinny Reem" also submitted Igor Vovchanchyn and Roman Zentsov.

Welcome to sherdog where beating washed up Wonderboy, Geof Neal and Vicente Luque is better than beating prime Rampage, prime Machida, prime Lil Nog, Prime Arona and "Skinny Reem"

This thread and anyone in it saying Pettis had a better or more legendary career and Shogun are ridiculous
