Nobody ever got rich on 1.5% cash back, using up their points or airline miles.

yeah you wont get rich, but every year i get a free vacation. on the 13th i have a round trip flight to tokyo from the miles on one card. and 4 of the 7 nights in the hotel are paid by the points on the other card. i have not paid a penny in interest from a credit card, ever

My dad put his last car on his credit card and paid it off that month. It was like 750 bucks free money.

great thread. If people can make Fedor threads in UFC discussion you should be able to make credit card debt threads... I
own a house and have school loans , no credit card debt..

I owe $89.95 from January 2nd when Fight Pass took my yearly subscription from my card.

if you have a rewards card and pay it off every month, its free money

Well it's free for a month isn't it, and then you give it back again. Dunno, personally I'd rather just know what money I do and don't have, but whatever works for you I guess man.

no its free money afterwards. as in, i had to pay a $2000 expense for my business. i could use a debit card and get nothing back. or i can use one of my rewards cards and get 2000 airline miles or a free $30 on a cash back card. then i pay the reward card off 2 days later when the transaction goes through.

i still pay the same amount, i just get free shit for forcing the merchant to pay 3.5% transaction fee or whatever their deal is

I pay off my credit card in full, on time, every month and have for almost 20 years. I just got married over the summer. My wife is a pain in the ass about her CC bill. She doesn't carry a large balance (maybe a grand), but never pays off in full, no matter how much I insist (and she has the money, it's infuriating). Thankfully, we're joining accounts soon, so I'll be in charge of it and she'll stop giving the bank free money in interest.
How old are you?

I'm 32 and I've never had a credit card. I don't see the point of it tbh.

What about optimizing the use of points/miles/cash back?

In 2016 alone combined with my wife we probably get $5000 of 'free' money from optimizing CC points/miles/cash back and churning a few credit cards each without keeping any credit card debt and having continued excellent credit scores. And we are not even hardcore by any means. Go check out flyertalk forums or reddit if you want to learn more. Some guys will MS and churn 10+ credit cards in a year.

How much risk could you honestly say you assumed in doing so?

I think if you're on top of it, you can get the numbers to work for you, and Kudos to you for doing so. I believe most people don't, and most people certainly don't consider risk in their financial decisions.

When I paid off my debt, messing with credit cards felt like playing with fire again; so I refuse to engage.

I have zero.. in fact I haven't owned a credit card in like eight years.

I do have a $5,000 line of credit through paypal though that I sometimes have a balance on, but I use to run a side business.

I currently owe $5. Ordered a couple of things off eBay last night.

Credit cards usually account for between 3-5k. Total debt load including mortage, 2 cars, motorcycle and line of credit is somewhere around 220k.

I racked up over 10 grand worth (GBP) of debt on credit cards a number of years ago. Had to go bankrupt to get it wiped. I'm clear now but doubt they'd ever give me a cc again. Probably for the best :)

I do. My old bank once decided that I didn't need access to my account while overseas because it "put the bank at risk" and they couldn't allow that. Wound up having to use a company lawyer to threaten a lawsuit for them to unlock my account.

I'd love to fight that little fucker who tried to have me stranded in a foreign country with no money. NHB. Eyepokes and groin shots until he bleeds from both places.

It's a good idea to notify your credit card company if you will be traveling.

I use credit cards to pay for most things so I don't have to carry cash and to buy online then pay them off and get cash back.

People who don't own a credit card because they are afraid to rack up a huge debt should own up to their lack of self control instead.

I got a student credit card twelve years ago. Paid $300 for a $300 line of credit. After so many years of charging stuff and paying it off my line of credit is $7,000. I never charge more than what I can afford to pay off outright (but would rather not take the hit all at once). I also pay much more than the minimum monthly payment, usually around $200-$300 when my minimum is around $35.

Currently working on getting an AMEX Platinum but got denied a year ago because my credit score is a little fucked due to a loan for my sister that I co-signed on and she was late making payments toward. Going to apply again once I hit my goal of $30k in savings by the end of this year.

Here we go again, a shit ton on fucking liars.

Of course i have credit card debt. I am paying it off but its difficult as fuck but its cunt hair by cunt hair.

I was going to buy a car on my credit card but they wanted to charge extra to cover what they would have to pay. They wouldn't even take a debit card but they would take a check.
