Who fought in a tougher era/weight class? Jones, Silva or GSP?

I think GSP fought the most difficult competition of the lot. Many people think Jones did because he fought a lot of household names like Shogun, Rampage and Rashad. But if you look at the opponents records, nobody fought up and coming contenders in crazy streaks like GSP. Fitch, Shields, Alves, were all in very impressive runs.

Not taking anything away from silva but gsp or jones

It's easily Jon Jones.

- Even as a relatively inexperienced fighter, wiped out veterans Shogun, Rampage, Lyoto, Rashad, Vitor, and Chael. These guys traded wins and losses with each other but Jon was a level above.
- Beat Gus twice, the first one controversially, but the second time decisively after Gus came off wins against future champs Jan and Glover.
- Speaking of Glover, Jon put a 5-round beating on him.
- Beat DC twice, though the 2nd one ruled an NC after Pico-gate. If Jon didn't exist, we would be talking about DC like how we talk about Jon. DC was otherwise unmatched at LHW.
- Derailed a new generation of up-and-comers like OSP, Anthony Smith, Marreta, and Dom Reyes

The only dude at LHW that might have given Jon some trouble because of his size, athleticism, chin, and power, was Rumble. Too bad their match fell through because's of Jon's idiocy. Then again, these two are on the opposite ends of fight IQ. Jon probably still strangles him in the 2nd round.

Jones easily.

GSPs biggest win is a chubby LW who he had to use his size and vasline to beat.

WW is and always has been better than MW and LHW in terms of high level competition and it is not close.

Name Value =/= High level competition.

Exaclty.

Its easy to get a name value when the division is stalling and that allows you to be in the top 10 for a decade.

But mentally challenged newbies like @pankrat can't grasp this fact.

I forgive him because he's only been following the sport for 5 years and is desperately trying to catch up with mma history via youtube highlights and fight finders records.

Gsp fought the weakest line up of pedestrian title contenders.

Matt serra was a journyman lw when gsp immortalized him by getting kod in his very first title defense.
Hardy, alves and kos are the very definition of average.
Alves went 6-11 to end his career after the title fight.
Kos went 0-6 4 by ko.
Matt hughes was almost 40 when georges finally beat him.
Bj legit won the first fight and put him in the hospital.
Bj was a bonafide lw when they fought again.
Carlos condot went 2-8 to finish his career after the title fight.
Wont shit on shields of fitch both were great wins.
Nick diaz...idk what to think of that win.
Hendricks beat the piss out of him.

The irony of someone called bjpenngoat judging fighters by how their careers ended is palpable

Few rank Fitch and Alves like they do Shogun, Lyoto, Rampage. Shields is a bit higher, he had a lot of success.

They are household names because their success made them such. When you rank someone higher in an all-time list, it means their division was better at the time. Some were washed, like Shogun. Some a bit past their prime, like Rampage. Some were still great, like Lyoto and Rashad.

And then you have Gus of the new gen, Glover, and one of the best fighters ever in DC, who Jones beat twice. Jon Fitch doesn't compare to DC. Big skill gap, he'd admit it himself.

This thread should of ended on page 1, the answer is my goat and yours, Jon Jones.

Jon Jones run is crazy ,
Silvia beat a pretty weak mw division .
Ww lvl was the same or better in gsp era

Jones clearly #1 imo, I won't argue that.

But I don't think the gap between Silva and GSP's competition is far at all, I lean back and forth between them and if I include the LHW fights that Silva fought it's a wash to me.

It makes me laugh when the era where old ass one eyed Bisping was champion and old ass Hendo nearly beat him is considered a stronger era than the one Silva reigned in where prime Vitor, Prime Hendo, Prime Bisping, and Prime Franklin all fought in among many others. It's also unfair tbh because Jones and GSP were UFC products who started their careers early in the UFC, If Anderson had 2-3 more years worth of fights his resume would have been even greater.

Silva gets a bad rap even though he fought in three damn divisions.

Jones.
Why is this a discussion?

The only reason Jones is not the unanimous GOAT is because of the PED shit

What was those guys records before GSP fought them? They were all top contenders at the time he fought them.

Im looking at it differently. The title contenders ascension into conention was built on rubbish and mediocre opponents. The title contenders aside from jake and fitch were smoke. They werent real elites that belonged there. They werent even former champs who may have been a bit past prime like jones has on his resume and georges didnt punish and make foolish of average guys like anderson did.

GSP, not close. Silva fought mostly cans and jones took over LHW when most of the star power was over the hill and on their way out.

Silva had the weakest division of the 3.
GSP had mostly wrestlers/grapplers.
Jones fought the best fighters, most of which were in their prime.

GSP had the best work ethic, Jones had the best talent, so Jones takes the cake
Don’t think so tim. Most of the lhw Jones beat had one foot in the grave. Outside of DC, he’s fought old men and cans and two of the most recent (middle weight) cans actually beat him imo.

Silva's division and who he defended against are so underrated:
Franklin: probably would've been a dominant champ without Silva
Marquardt: Severely underrated, after he beat Kampmann, Maia, Woodley, Palhares
Hendo: Just won both pride belts and basically unified them in UFC and beat Fedor after this fight
Maia: Still regarded highly, dropped to WW after this loss.
Sonnen: Great wrestler and arguably WEC champ
Okami: Super well rounded and good wrestler
Belfort: Legend, between 2007-2013 only lost to Jones and Silva, TRT was allowed

I think Jones has better names but the guys Silva defended the title against great competition in their prime.
No offense, but this list is borderline trash.

Go back to the video games room, please.
I literally never saw anybody on these boards outside of consummate GSP fanboys giving you a single like. No trolling here

You are the epitome of a nerd fanboy in a online forum
Nerd fanboy lol, why does every forum online have the faux internet tough guy that would get his ass handed to him in 1 minute flat in real life. Nerd fanboy, this the best you got?
