My pec was still sore today, so I decided to do some overhead press which didn't bother it. No overhead pressing for 3 months = 23 pound PR, and I had at least another 5kg in me. I guess that makes a case for pause benching helping out overhead work. I tried to go as deep as possible on the ring push-ups to stretch it out, it felt pretty good and it's a lot less tight now. Squats went great, it seems to be really taking off now.

Congratulations on the press PR.

You should focus on the press for the next five months or so. I bet you'd make a lot of gains and it would give your pec a chance to heal.

Ha. I would like to press my bodyweight at some point. Honestly given my improvment in press with just benching I don't think I need to train it seperately.

I'm going mad waiting for Sunday.

I can only imagine. Are you going to watch Saturday at all? It's going to be pretty crazy with 170 some lifters. I will do whatever it takes to compete next year.

I'm going to go tomorrow so I can get a feel for everything.

Will you be at 275 for next year?

I read an interesting article on Sportivny Press today by Medvedyev, I fucking hate frames but if you go under "translations" it is article number 8. Sheiko was a student of Medvedyev, and I found the similarities interesting. Also, an olympic level coach speaking openly about performance enhancer use and it's effects on training is enlightening:

3 to 4 repetitions per set (with 75 to 80%) should form the core of the year round training in the fundamental exercises. This method is varied with 1 to 2 (85 to 100% weights) and 5 to 6 (60 to 70% weights) repetitions per set.

I dont understand so you do 3-4 with 80% how do you make progress?

Frames are easily defeated. Right click, copy link address, right click, paste. Voila:

Apparently like a fucking champion considering how Mittens is slaying us all.

Maybe its more effective on more advanced lifters, do you test for a new 1RM every 2-3 weeks then? It sounds pointless to keep lifting 80% of your max without putting on more weight.

Hmmm. If I decided to do the 2009 USAPL Raw Nationals, that would be like "The Race to 1500, Part 2."

You can retest your max after every preparatory cycle phase like Eric Talmant suggests (but that's another discussion), or you can do the "Chase" method of increasing your max 5 pounds or a small % such as 1.25% and keep stacking prep cycles until a competition period begins.

You should plan for it, it would be fun. We can all sleep in Enright's bed and cuddle.
