Social Which Time Period would you thrive in?

I’m good in this time period.

Back then, I’d be way too tempted to perform some kind of sleight of hand. After all, playing cards have been around in Europe since the 14th century, and were mass-produced in the 15th century.

So, I’d definitely be able to pull off certain types of card magic, not to mention classic sleight of hand like coin tricks, manipulating random items, and some mentalism feats.

I’d probably be accused of sorcery and end up facing some grim fate, like getting executed via guillotine or the breaking wheel.

I probably would’ve made a pretty dope court jester... until the king wanted to know how a trick was done.

Then I’d probably say, "By magic, of course!" and, well... things would go downhill from there.

Feudal Japan?
What you trying to be ? A peasant can only toil the fields, and samurai can do whatever they want to you

Samurai's are beholden to the whim of their master and DEATH always being around the corner, it is welcomed and poems written about it

You could be a Ronin I guess, but a hard life, fraught with danger, and for what?

I guess you could be a moneylender, despised by all but essential and wealthy. But who the fuck would go back to Feudal Japan to be a fuckin moneylender.

Or you could be an Eta.

The ones given jobs no one else wants like tanning hides and disposing of dead bodies.

I’d be absolutely fucked in any time period. I’m not even thriving in this one and it’s the cushiest. Lmao.

Fucked? Turn that shit into profit by nailing a Royal or one of the first American millionaires. Dudes wouldn’t know how to handle a modern woman and her honey pot.

At least 100 years?

Fuck yeah take me back to the roaring 20’s. One of the most opulent times in America. Modest betting on the NFL and MLB. Then smart investing with the Titans of Industry. Just have to make sure all my assets are liquid by 1929. And make sure my weapons cache is fully stocked by 1934. Oh snap…..I could be the first steroids supplier and sports performance trainer.

I’d also be too old for the draft by WW2.

If you go back to ancient times the average person's life span was pretty short. Even if you were immune to diseases thats only half the battle.

Not sure I want to live anywhere near the Great depression either. Maybe try and avoid any major wars, the draft, economic depressions, working in some s***** ass factory.

What about post Napoleonic war Great britain? 50% chance you are stuck in a dark toxic factory or you can become an ambassador to another country

Feudal Japan, Mongolia? Cray cray

I'd go back exactly 100 years so I could get a job with the railroad beating up bums who hop on the train.

Nobody's as passionate about beating up bums as I am, so I think I'd totally thrive in that environment.
I would gladly hop a train , so we could have had a good fight. I would of thrown you out

Drop me in the middle of the Industrial Revolution and I'll "invent" a bunch of machines, technologies, and factory processes that are 50 years ahead of their time. With what I know about steel making and other industrial technologies & processes I could invent & upgrade so many things that my name would be up there with James Watt, I'd literally revolutionize the Industrial Revolution. I'd also have enough knowledge from my physics class to make some key "breakthroughs" in the theories of thermodynamics and electromagnetism. I could also make a fortune from inventing new weapons such as breech loading artillery and high explosive shells, everyone was at war in those days so they'll all be looking for better ways to break things and kill people.
I thought about that too. Imagine being the first guy to come with the concept of shell casings and magazines for guns. You'd make a killing.

The Book called Timeline by Michael Crichton explores this concept realistically. Anyone interested in logistically going back to medieval France should read this book.
Good book! Same applies for wannabe weebs who think they'd do well in feudal Japan. The samurai were cutting heads off in their teens. Totally different mindset. Absolute savages by today's standards.
Fuckin FAIRY TALES.

None of us could survive back then.

It'd have to be some thing where you are impervious to ancient diseases, invulnerable to physical damage, and have a safe word to fuck off back to your own time as soon as shit goes bad ( in about 10 - 15 mins)
In the OP, the condition is that you'd be adapted to the environment so diseases aren't an issue, except for the diseases that would kill anyone else. It's about how you would do with your current knowledge and personality.

In the 1800s I would most likely die from dysentery
I doubt it honestly. This is where you have a superpower compared to the locals. People back then didn't know that bacteria and viruses were a thing, and that you can kill pathogens with boiling water. Just don't drink water from questionable sources without boiling them first. That's still true now.

One of the things that scare me the most of the medieval period is the torture and execution methods. If they accuse of witchcraft or heresy you're fucked. With some of the ways they'd torture you, you'd wish they would just cut your head off.

What you trying to be ? A peasant can only toil the fields, and samurai can do whatever they want to you
I'd be the tallest guy in Japan at the time and maybe a daimyo would keep me around as a pet. Live a comfy life getting bathed by geisha and being entertainment for the lords.

That actually doesn't sound too bad. I can watch Jack Dempsey fights live and bet on the outcome. The only issue is that if you're not white, you'd be at a huge disadvantage during this time.

I'd be drinking beer and whiskey

Mongolia during Genghis Can. If a retarded manlet that can't fight the common cold is on top of the world then I should be alright.

That’s why my answer was so easy to give. <Rodgers1>

Modern people think people in the past were idiots but honestly the average modern person is completely fucking useless. The average dude "back then" probably knew how to hunt or farm or whatever, but pluck some average guy from New York or whatever and his skills would be absolutely useless.

You can make an excel sheet, send emails, and join a zoom call, but they don't have electricity much less computers yet. You may scoff at the ancient people are making sacrifices to the gods to make it rain more for the crops, but it's not like you'd be able to provide them with a better way to do things unless you have extensive knowledge about agriculture.

I'm honestly in the same boat. I can introduce concepts but other than that most of my skills cannot be used at all.

You have to be insanely good at war to pull that off

Ancient Rome, easily. They had plumbing with running water, reading material, and wasn't some type of religious theocracy. Plus I'd get in Augustus good graces by letting him know all my knowledge of the future. They would probably look at me as some sort of prophet, being able to accurately predict events, and I'd probably forever change the outcome of Europe and everything I know today, but let's go.
