Movies Which Movies do you think are massively overrated?

there are a lot lesser regarded movies that I absolutely love way more than the godfather, deer hunter or apocolypse now. Not that I can't appreciate those movies nor would I say they're overrated but they didn't resonate like some movies did.

It's so hard to understand why people like or love a film so much. I just saw Priscilla, it's been getting pretty good reviews, and one guy on you tube said he liked it better than the Luhrman film. It was dreadful in a million ways, boring, slow and a big part of that is that Priscilla just isn't all that interesting a person, not very bright, not very personable and as Elvis told a later lover, she was a cold person. Not to mention, inexplicably, they had virtually no Elvis music and no original Elvis music. I suppose some reviewers don't want to burst the bubble on a rare female director and there were some great things about it, as far as the look, the wardrobe but those don't make the movie.

I found it odd there was even a story here anyone wanted to see. Imagine a movie about Michael Jordans wife? Or A Superman movie that just had Lois Lane?

Came in to post this.

I've never seen the sequel but was amazed the first one got the praise it did.
I see this take a lot. But man, the technical aspects are really fucking mind blowing. The sequel LOOKED stunning. It was totally immersive in a stadium Imax. I sometimes wonder if they really just casted the wrong lead. Worthington is a nice guy but he is dry as fuck. Would they have been more dynamic with a better lead? Maybe

I love the Coen Brothers, but O Brother Where Art Thou is fucking dogshit. I've tried to watch that at 3 times and tapped out every time. Also...

... The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. All 3 movies suck ass. 37 hours of hobbits walking and jerking each other off.

Forrest Gump
Braveheart
Shawshank Redemption
Saving Private Ryan

The whole era of self important "big" Hollywood dramas of the mid 90's.
This is just wrong lol. Maybe Gump. But the other 3 are some of the best movies of all time, with Shawshank maybe 1 or 2. No movie has ever captured redemption through friendship like that movie. 10/10 for me.

Saving Private Ryan. D-day scene was very cool to watch but the flick just felt like it never attempts to say anything novel about war. Kind of just Spielberg using the WW2 as chance to direct big scenes. Hollywood goes to WW2 for a few hours.

Thin Red Line had far more to say and far better performances from its actors and sits with me to this day.

Damn, my candidates (Godfather 2 and Black Panther) both got mentioned before I could say them. Must be something to it.

which five do you put above it?

I love kurosawa works but it is my favorite aside from maybe Ran
It's seven now that I think about it. I'd put Ikiru, Throne of Blood, The Bad Sleep Well, High and Low, Red Beard, Dersu Uzala, and Ran above Seven Samurai. I'm obsessed with Dostoevsky and Shakespeare and most of these are heavily influenced by the two. I still love Samurai though. I always show that or Yojimbo to people as a gateway to his work.

300
Inception
Shawshank (It’s good but parts are pretty unbelievable and annoying…Andy can make up a person with id, drivers license and bank accounts but he has to go to Red who can barely read to smuggle in some posters? Also when Andy comes back from the hole and tells the boys he had Mr Mozart down there to keep him company they can’t grasp that Andy feels music so deeply ha ok. It seems Andy is the only intelligent, introspective inmate in the whole prison and he’s been sent there to enlighten all the idiots.

Shawshank Redemption race lifted red.

He was supposed to be a red-headed Irish guy and they cast Morgan Freeman.

Be consistent and complain about that.

The life of Pi was a horrible pile of pseudo- religious bullshit.
The last Joker movie is good but not a 10/10 masterpiece as every edgy kid says.

I never met anyone that liked them. How old are you?

I was already in high school when episode 1 came out in theaters. Like I said, the ones that liked them tend to be very little when they first see it.
