Which is the better choice - fight or flight?

I have too much to lose so I will always try to avoid an issue if I can. I can usually use words instead of these hands. But being in NY and using trains, flight is not an option. The migrant situation, paired with homeless and mentally ill have made things interesting to say the least. I have seen so many things and find myself having to stick up for folks who can't more than I want to. I won't say what, but I carry a few items for protection and have used on a few occasions. I think we all just want peace, but there are outliers that live to cause chaos.

Flight unless I feel a confrontation is inevitable. Then the pew pew comes out. Definitely trying to fly first, in 99% of situations

Pride is not worth getting into a fight over. Be the smarter man and walk away.

If you or someone else is getting attacked, it might be necessary to fight and it that case it's better to go ham than hesitate.

I think flight is a good option.

But I stopped running when I was 13.

Flight unless I need to engage in fight to allow someone else the opportunity to flee. Like if I was with my wife or kids I would probably choose fight to give them the chance to get to safety. But if I’m alone probably flight.

(If it involves physical confrontation)

I'd rather look like a coward than be put in the hospital or jail.

But it all depends on the circumstances of course.

But if you had to choose between the two, which would it be?

This is an impossible question to answer without a scenario to run it through.

It's always going to be better to avoid violence, but sometimes you can't. Knowing when you should stand a fight vs flee is an important survival skill.

I'd choose flight every time if it's an option. There's nothing to be gained by street violence even if you win and an almost endless list of things to lose

Seems kind of silly to ask this question of Sherdoggers.

Here's a pic of your average Sherdogger. In fact, compared to most of us, the guy on the left is kind of scrawny.

Generally speaking of course. In your normal interaction with people.

Well, my normal interaction with people rarely involves physical confrontation but I think everyone can envisage situations where they're going to fight and others where they're not. I don't think anyone can answer which is "better" in an absolute sense. We all weigh the cost/benefit in our mind and make a decision.

A better posed question might be whether one's tendency is fight or flight. Some of us lean towards flight whereas others lean towards fight. This tendency depends on many things though and changes throughout our lives.

Well it's just common sense what I'm talking about, I don't have to go in specifics or in heavy detail about the gist of what I'm saying.

It's pretty simple.

Right on. So if someone is beating up your daughter you've chosen flight.

Good to know.

Nope, you just can't comprehend. Seems everyone else understands what I'm talking about.

Actually if you had reading comprehension skills you'd see that basically everyone has said "it depends."

All I'm saying is that it's not an absolute and it depends on the situation. I'm not sure why that opinion offends you so much lol.

I'm not offended whatsoever. You are assuming for no reason. I already explained my post in what I meant. It's pretty straight forward. If you can't understand it's all good. No big deal.

You actually haven't explained why you've chosen flight as "better" while acknowledging there are many situations that you'd need to fight.

It's not my issue that you don't understand context.
