Where does Leon Rank all time at WW. Top 5?

Obvious troll thread.

Anyway, Leon is probably somewhere in the 8-12 range. He had a great win streak, but he actually only has 4 top 10 wins in his career: Usman x2, Colby, and RDA. That's it.

I agree about Shields. However, I'm not sure about him being prime Usman. I guess it depends which Usman that is. Early Usman was a dominant wrestler but not a great striker from what I remember. Later Usman was a better striker. He was never technically great--more like a bigger Colby with KO power...but like Colby he had a great chin and quite a bit of output. Against Shields, I think Usman would keep it standing like Woodley. But unlike Woodley, Usman wouldn't just stand there and let Jake win with pitter patter punches and light leg kicks. I think Usman wins a decision in a pretty ugly and non-technical striking fight.

Yeah, man, I agree, I don't think Shields would have beaten Usman. Just a rough stylistic match up.

I think I might have also said that of Woodley, though, had I not seen the fight!

Was RDA in the Top 10 at the time? People here gave Colby lots of grief about beating an "old, washed" RDA in 2018, and Edwards beat RDA a year after that.

GOATlal > Leon

Beat Leon and finished Brady who finished Leon

I even think Jake vs. Khamzat would be interesting prime vs. prime. Jake beat Maia (in a close, contested fight that was almost pure grappling). He also got the best of Palhares until the last round when he was submitted--but Palhares was fighting dirty. Since Khamzat avoided Burns on the ground, he'd probably stand with Jake where he'd win by landing more powerful strikes. I doubt he'd KO Jake, though. Jake had a great chin and even Hendo couldn't finish him after rocking him.

1/2) Usman/GSP
3)Woodley
4)Leon
5)Hughes

Leon beating Usman is better than almost all GSPs wins.
Fuck you are dumb.
1. GSP
2. Hughes

all the rest. Not remotely close.
Usman is lesser than Hughes by miles. He is barely better than Lawler who beating Hendricks, Condit & Rory is > all of Usman's defenses combined. Frankly better than Usman's entire UFC career.

Leon is far off in the distance and I like Leon.

Soon, age is catching up to him, if he beat Shavkat, Brady again and live up to his words and beat DDP , he could very well be the best WW of all time.
LOL, Shavkat and Brady wouldn't be enough at WW to overtake GSP...and DDP would be in a different weight class. That said, DDP would rip Edwards apart like a wild animal at MW. So would Khamzat.

1) GSP
2) Hughes
3) Woodley
4) Usman
5) Lawler/Leon

Yes Usman beat Woodley but Woodley beating Robbie, WB, Maia, and Till WHEN HE DID is more impressive than Usman beating Masdival twice, Colby twice and Burns WHEN HE DID.

IMHO.

I'm still pissed at Burns for the Usman fight. He kicks Usman in the head, visibly hurts Usman and instead of trying to finish the job with strikes or attempt to takedown Usman he decides to flop on his back and invite Usman into his guard. Usman of course doesn't do this and gets time to recover because the ref has to tell Burns to get back on his feet. Low ass fight IQ. Usman then recovers and knocks Burns out in the next round.
I think Usman was very good, but sadly we will never know how good he really was because of UFC bullshit matchmaking

Colby is a more extreme example of the same thing, I think Colby was actually very good, but he didn't beat anyone so you can't give him the credit for it

That formatted weirdly!

I like your arguments.

I don't think Shields is breaking into that top 5, but I do have a genuine appreciation of his ability. I think he's a top 10 guy in the all time, but that's completely up for debate. He's got some really impressive wins.
Yeah i don't know why it did that

Not sure when that was but Hendricks beat Condit via UD in a WW title eliminator. I remember that fight.
Johnny pulled out of a #1 contenders fight with Woodley right before the UFC 192 weigh in. That's what made Woodley sit out for 2 years because that was supposed to be a #1 contenders fight and Johnny pulled out so Woodley said he'd wait for a TS and didn't need to fight for money

The revisionism on Usman is crazy, people were comparing him to GSP now he's not even above Woodley! He has: 15 win-streak (top 2 in history), 6 title wins, 8 wins against top 5 fighters, he's no GSP but anything short of top 3 is wrong.

Agreed.
I like RDA but when your best win at WW before you get a TS is RDA it's telling.

Especially when there were actual viable fights to make. How Colby and Usman basically fought all the same competition without fighting each other before getting a TS is crazy. It would've been the equivalent of Garry fighting Shav. Imagine that UFC saying that Brady, Jack, Shav and Garry couldn't fight each other until one became a champ. We'd say that's BS.

I'd rank him above Till (obviously you aren't being serious), but if they had a point fight like Till and Wonderboy ....Till probably has like a 50% chance of winning. Even at MW he had his moments (beat Gastelum, close fight with Whittaker, did quite well against DDP until he didn't in the last round).

Put another way, the best versions of Till and Edwards against each other is a toss-up if Till doesn't have a terrible weight cut. Maybe Edwards could win via wrestling but who knows. Till stuffed a couple of Woodley's TDs before he got flatlined.
Sounds like we totally agree!

Leon is not in the convo of top 5 all time WW. Ever.

RDA was #4 at the time. He was over-ranked at WW after walking through Robbie when people hadn't yet realized how far Robbie had fallen off.

WTF...

1) GSP
2) Hughes
3) Usman
4) Woodley
5) Lawler/Leon

Hughes at 5 lmao
Seriously!

I might put Lawler above Woodley though. He had a more illustrious career and fought way more tough/top opponents.

He literally beat the prime out of Rory, Hendricks and Condit. Bigger than anything that Woodley or Usman did. IMO Tyron got a little lucky landing so quick and clean on Lawler.

They should've made Woodley fight someone. He took a shit on the division after beating Lawler.

Much rather have seen Lawler v Wonderboy
