As it relates to Iraq and Iran at least. Aren't the largest importers of crude to the US Canada and the Saudis now?
Yes, and with the assistance of the Tides Foundation and the Oil Sands Initiative, the U.S. buys Canadian crude at massive discounts because the Canadian oil is land-locked and there is no alternative buyer. This provides them a low cost supply of oil to refine while also blocking Canada from being a competitor on the global scene. They have also sanctioned the hell out of Iran so that they cannot bring their oil to market. The CIA also heavily influenced Ukraine to ditch Russia and block the pipelines into Europe and then immediately put one of their ex-directors on the board of Burisma. They also tried to destroy Syria for basically the same reason. The U.S. is trying to push Russia out of the European natural gas market and become the alternative supplier. The Friendship Pipeline was conveniently delayed by the Syria Civil War, for example.
