When America Was Great...

the stress of working in america is very real and a legit health concern. overwork without much rest is a very real health concern.
You honestly believe that people work more/harder today than they ever have?

then why do americans have shorter life spans than most of other first world countries?

Japan and Korea have among the highest life expectancies - and they have higher or just as high work hours as the US

I personally don't. But the worlds view of us matters in the discussion of greatness.
How would the worlds view be if we are ran by Trump? I don't know if you're a Trump supporter or not just asking your opinion.

Yes it was. America was respected, feared and had one of the strongest economies in the world.

Today we are ridiculed, spit on and much of our productive industry is gone.

But at least 2 dudes can get married now.

Our GDP on current price is 50% more than the 2nd ranked economy on Earth.

Our colleges are the best in the world. The best engineers, scientists, and doctors are in America.

So gays can marry and that matters how? Maybe stop living in a bubble and being a bigot.

It's probably a combo of genetics and diet. How happy are they in those countries those?

And are you in danger of dying from being over worked?
Not literally dying but sometimes I feel like I'm dead inside bleh o_O. I know things for us can only get better tho and honestly I believe they will.

yes, the wages have become stagnant for decades and unions arent as strong to make sure americans didnt have to work two or three jobs.

Diet and exercise - they eat less processed foods and walk way more. Better health care - but i am surprise their doctors dont die young - averaging 80-100 hr work weeks for 120k a year..

Our colleges aren't a modern product. Our top colleges were all around in the "golden era" we've been discussing.

I don't know how it matters that gays can marry now. Read the thread, idiot. That was my point exactly. These things aren't improvements in our world wide standing. No one cares about that outside the US.

What makes us great then? Our opinion? Please. If the rest of the world doesn't respect you the way it did in the past, then you're not as great as you once were. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Improvements in gay rights or women's lib is just a small part of the story. A few improvements don't erase decades of mistakes.
Why are improvement in womens, gay, and minorty rights a small part? Maybe it's a bigger part then you think.

I'm not a Trump supporter. I folded on this election a while ago and will wait 4 years for the next hand to be dealt.

I think Trump winning would be fun for its comedic value. Aside from that, I can't think of it as any better or worse than 4 years of Clinton mediocrity.

and those colleges are still around

you ran your mouth about our economy

We're still number one

You have no facts and all your rhetoric is coming from an ignorant and bitter bigoted point of view

I disagree with Trump. I believe things are getting better and better more and more as time goes by. Twenty years ago a black man in the white house and gay marriage was unthinkable.

Um, 20 years ago we had our first black President.

I have no real opinion on those things in terms of this conversation. I don't think they really matter in how the rest of the civilized world views us.

I've always supported gay rights. I enjoy a good racist joke as much as the next guy but I hate no one based on race. Women's liberation was so far before my time that I couldn't really form an opinion. I don't think anyone here could. I have no issue with women in the workplace or women voting. Its not a thing for me. I can see an argument being made for women as homemakers I suppose, but not as a rule.

What about what the world would think if he got in? You don't think the western looks at him as a joke?

No, people being fat and not exercising is a real concern. If we had less obese people but worked just as long, our life expectancy would increase and be among the best in the world (excluding a few freak nations with homogeneous populations that probably have high life expectancies partially due to genetic factors, like the Japanese).
