I remember watching him against Royce representing the 5 animals of Kung fu. I thought that was so cool. Kung fu to me is one of the more interesting martial arts out of them all. Anyway what's your opinion on his career ? Seemed he had a great career in pancrase and challenged Royce in his prime. I wish he would of beaten Royce cause of the Kung fu bias. I don't think deluca gets enough respect around here or anywhere in the mma community cause he is one of the pioneers. I do know people said he was being a d bag in his fight against bas though.

He was okay. Decent striking for way back in the day.

Royce raped him at the Gracie Academy in Torrance and in the UFC as well.

Lmao the Bas Rutten vs DeLucia fight here on sherdog...links please.

He's one of those guys who was never elite but has beaten many big names (like Takase or Shungo Oyama). He was also pretty versatile, but I'll know him most for tapping/collapsing against Bas and Royce working him.

**Cool thread. I'm reminded of this guy briefly maybe once a year, at best.

he was a fringe guy back when mma was first getting going and is probably best known for feuding with royce and bas (and getting his ass beat by both but talking shit afterward just the same)

Been watching MMA for 12 years and I have no clue who he is.

Lol yea I rarely find people who know who he is. I was fan because you don't see many people specialize in Kung fu anymore. He had great striking for back in the day.

And feuding with Bas on Sherdog, amusingly enough.

I can't seem to find the thread with Bas and Jason going back and forth. Maybe it dissapeared after the forum change?

Cool to see him come up on threads here. I watched the first 2 UFC's live, but the 2nd one was the one that really hit home for me.

I figured for sure the kung fu dude was gonna fuck up the bjj guy, I mean, wtf is that even? And then bam, Royce was a beast then.

Patrick Smith's absolute destruction in 2 of those matches at UFC lead to my training in must thai for 17 years starting 2 months later. I grew up in really gnarly neighborhoods south of Chicago cuz they were where we could afford to live, but they left me as the only young dude of my race for blocks and blocks so I saw muay thai as a really good way to defend myself. Boy was I right!

Anyway, Jason Delucia, imo, is a pioneer of the sport we on here know and love.

Thanks for the awesome reminder of early MMA!!!

Sadly, the Bas Rutten/Jason Delucia thread did not survive the migration. I remember it well - the poisoning, the extra holding after the tap, the animosity. The hatred was palpable.

He was a pioneer. Any of those dudes, who fought back in the day, were badasses. He's the only Akido guy, to my knowledge, to compete in the octagon.
