What's Your Next Purchase? V5

I managed to get Brownells to switch up the order to the OD Green ones. If I want them black I'll just take Krylon to them.

10-4

And I could probably cut you the Sherbro discount and beat Brownell's price a little next time. :)

@Gregolian

Did you see DVOR had the Trijicon MRO with 1/3 co witness mount for $544 but you get $125 dvor credit to a future purchase after the MRO ships.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU, guess that'll go on the CC bill for next month
GODDAMNIT

Hahaha.

That's another thing about that site. That isn't the best price available(I think amazon has it w/ mount for $493 for example), however the $125 credit makes it an excellent deal if you plan on getting more stuff from them.

For sure.

Looks like I've helped you spend near $1000 in a week hahaha. You get that barrel?
OH YEAH. Pretty as fuck and very much looking forward to getting everything together.

And yeah you've helped me spend a ton. Grumble

Has anybody tried those carbon wrapped barrels from Christensen arms???

My search for the ultimate hunting rifle has led me all over and I'm looking at a Christensen arms ridge line, it's pricey at about 2k but had the carbon wrapped barrel, a nice stock and comes with a timney trigger. It's 6.5 lbs so light enough and every review claims 1/2 in groups with factory ammo.

I'd get the summit ti model but that is 6k without a scope lol....for that price i could get a ridge line, scope and have 3500 dollars to blow on a cool hunting trip.

I've held one of their AR's that has them. I think the proof research barrel looks much better. Completely irrelevant to your question, sorry I'm of no help lol.

My mind wanders with ideas on stuff. Would you consider customizing a Weatherby Vanguard backcountry?

$1000 rifle

With a 16.5" .308 Proof Research barrel, $790. link

Gunsmithing $?

Sell or trade the weatherby barrel for $? Possibly just an extra replacement part.

I don't know much about bolt actions barrel swaps or whatever so forgive me if this is a dumb idea lol

Not a dumb idea and I would think about it for sure. That's sort of how I came across Christensen, I was looking at that vanguard back country then read an article about a guy putting on a better barrel and a timney trigger and for the cost other people were saying he should go with a Christensen.

But it would be an awesome project and totally do able. Definetly something to consider as I'm sure the vanguard action is as good as a Christensen.

I really am liking th Ida of a carbon wrapped barrel more and more, mix the benefits of a lightweight barrel and a heavy barrel for long shots.

Yeah plus you probably won't run into anyone with a custom set up like that(if you like/care about that sort of thing).

I'm personally not a fan of the Christensen arms cf pattern. I'm sure others love it and possibly dislike the Proof cf.

Something about that raw cf proof barrel tickles my fancy.

Backcountry chassis with a 16.5-18" Proof Research barrel, timney or Jewell trigger.

Maybe a custom bolt knob

Yeah that would be tits right there (not sure about the ballsack bolt, but each to their own). That weatherby back country is actually are really badass setup and a barrel like that with a timney trigger would be absolutely awesome. Those howa 1500 actions are sweet.

I'm not a big fan of the jewel triggers personally. I know they are good and my buddy who does that 1000+ yard stuff loves his but I had one get gunned up pretty bad once after carrying a gun through some polenous flowers (maybe golden seal). Timney seems to be the go to for hunting specific guns.

I think I'll start looking into what it would cost to get a barrel switched out on a weatherby, and then I'd need to clear the channel on the stock but that's easy. Timney triggers are easy to install so no big deal there and that would be a great back country/mountain rifle.

I'd probably get it in 308 for all around versatility and ammo selection, if I need bigger I can use a 300wm, 300wby, 338wm or 340wby....like if I ever get to try for moose and want to shoot it from afar rather than seeing it then stocking the damn thing through forests and alders for the next 6 hours before taking a 40yd shot lol.

The first moose I shot, i used my 270 (only gun I had back then) I was on a hillside glassing around with binoculars when I saw the thing crossing a shallow river. I watched it for a good ~90 seconds waiting for it to turn so o could take a shot, by the time it turned it was like ~ 400yds away and just slipped into the trees.

If I had a 300wm or a 340wby with menu could have dropped it but with the 270 I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I ended up dropping down, crossing the river and following the tracks for the rest of the day before I finally got it.

While it's one of the most memorable hints and hardest stalks I ever did, I still see the benefit of carrying a bigger gun for the job.

I'm realizing that what need is a really nice 308 for coues deer, mule deer and elk, I have a 257wby and a 240wby for antelope but I should also probably build my all around moose rifle....thinking of a Montana x2 for that, only like 1k on gunbroker.

I don't see a firearm in this pic.[/QUOTE]

She's hot. She also has one of these carbon wrapped barrels that in now obsessed with.

Looks like some sort of m40a3 type custom rig.

Those legs too....ouch.

Yeah I think it really would be an amazing set up for the price.

I think I've read similar about the Jewell. Ultimate in bench rest but not necessarily out in the field.

Lol that bolt knob cracked me up. I was looking at a Carbon bolt knob and that was under the related.

Why can't I find a girl where I live that likes guns that I can date? Oh yeah, I live 2 hours north of Seattle where they believe AR15s have bullet buttons, can shoot 3000 rounds a second, have a thing on the back that flips up, and are the deadliest rifle ever built.

My wife actually likes to shoot and while she just shoots 22 and 223, she took to it very quickly. I like it that way, she dosent have a problem with guns and hunting but I also do t have to worry about taking her hunting lol.
