Anyone have experience with the BCMGUNFIGHTER Comp's? I was initially thinking one of the Fortis RED brakes or a JP brake then got to thinking they are ridiculous in size and weight for a hunting gun.

There are better comps from tests that I've read and seen. I've read good things about the precision Armament Efab recently.

I've read that it keeps the muzzle flat and predictable while having excellent flash hiding qualities and a concussive blast is pretty low. Felt recoil isn't as good as some (better than bcm but not quite as good as VG6(which tbh are closer to muzzle brakes than some other comps)) however sound/concussion and flash is much better than others.

Really another thing you need to ask yourself is what do you really want. A muzzle brake or a tactical comp. The brakes will always have the most recoil reduction but have the the most concussion. It will also have low-zero flash hiding ability.

Precision Armament also has one of the best AR brakes as well.

The M4-72

It's for hunting.. Deer and elk here in WA, elk in Nevada maybe, gophers in the plain states so I'm not sure 100% what would be best either

Basically comes down what you want.

Just get something cheap if you just plan on taking one shot at a deer. YHM Phantom comp is like $40-45. There are probably cheap 3 port brakes out there as well if you wanted a brake. If you do lots of range shooting next to people the muzzle brakes are pretty obnoxious. AR10 really doesn't recoil that much.

True. Suppose I could ask the guys at my favorite shop what would be a good thing to use

Well it will probably come down to opinion and what you want. Most people hunt with bolt rifles that don't have a muzzle device.

Muzzle brake

Pros:
Maximum recoil reduction

Cons:
Concussion
Noise
Huge flash
Also I should add these are only cons if they bother you.

Tactical comp(hybrid of a brake and hider and some designs are closer to brakes and others to hiders)

Pros:
Good recoil reduction
Good flash suppression
Medium noise and concussion

Cons:
Not the best at anything

And again this category varies quite a bit so some will be better/worse at things.

Flash hider

Pros:
Very low flash
Low concussion
Low noise (relative toward the other 2 styles)

Cons:
More muzzle rise
More recoil

If you want a brake, from all of my research, I believe this one is considered the least recoil for the buck. I bought one, but I'm an aesthetic whore so it's sitting in the parts bin until I get motivated to replace the ol' birdcage on a store-bought rifle.

I was honestly thinking about just getting something on the end to protect the threads.... gggrrrrr... too many choices.

Well you could just get something cheap. That muzzle brake that Cubo suggested or like that YHM comp($45).

If you want a really good brake the M4-72($95) is great. If you want a really good comp get the efab($162). If you want a good flash hider get a Seekins precision flash hider($52) or an AAC blackout no mount($58).

The 10 day California wait begins for a new CZ-sp01.
One gun i have been trying to get for years, LGS are always out of stock, but i was able to guy one of the three he had in stock.

The next 10 days can't go by fast enough.

I personally wouldn't want to hunt with anybody using a muzzle brake. I would also sort of feel strange elk hunting with somebody who was carrying an ar10 but that's just me.

Speaking of hunting, I bit the bullet on the kimber mountain ascent and a zeiss scope that has a matching camo pattern. I got it in 270 because my other 270 is old and cheap (but still took a lot of elk, sheep and dear).

One of you guys owns a Tavor right? In the time I've spent waiting for my XCR-L, I've regained my interest in the Tavor. The price difference between the two is negligible for me and I've e-mailed the retailer to see if they're willing to put my $1K deposit on one gun into the other and I'd just pay the difference. I'm sure the trigger isn't the greatest, but that's never been a deal breaker before. As for being used to another manual of arms like most guys are with the AR, I'm not, so I'm pretty flexible.

How is it with P-mags? That's the one thing I keep hearing about; loaded P-mags push up on the bolt and wear it and the bolt stop out faster than normal.

I have one. The trigger does suck but aftermarket triggers exist that eliminate that complaint. Not sure on the pmags. I don't have enough rounds through mine. If I remember I'll bust it out and see if I can tell a difference in comparison to other mags.

Coincidentally I've always wanted a Robinson but never came across the deal I couldn't refuse.

Shit, I deserve to have my bro card suspended. I was at a gun show today with my coworker's husband; I had nothing better to do and wasn't really looking to buy anything. He was looking for an SKS and we saw a Russian (didn't look at the markings though, don't know which arsenal it came from) for $135. The stock was chewed up and it was missing the bayonet but he was going to put it in the Tapco stock I gave him last year anyways.

His wife, my coworker, didn't let him buy it and it wasn't until I got home that I thought about buying and holding it for him and we could set up some kind of layaway or something. I'm seriously considering going back tomorrow to buy it. If he doesn't want it after all, then I have another cheap blaster for myself.

I'm going to try to dump my SVT-40 tomorrow.

I need to sell a few guns myself too. First to go will probably be a BCM a4 a colt 6920. I need to make room in the safe for the rifles I've acquired over the past few months.

I've been jonesing for a Cz 527 carbine in 7.62x39 here lately. Supposed to eat cheap steel cases surplus like a champ and the set trigger sounds pretty slick. Probably pick one up April or May.

Yeah, the CZ 527 does look sweet; if not for the fact that I hate back-asswards Czech safeties, I'd own one.

I drank the look-aid and have not been disappoint. My CZ-75 is still my favorite handgun.

I need to get to a range soon. My trigger finger has cobwebs...
