What's Your Next Purchase? V5

I need to fiddle with the scope. I think it’s not COMPLETELY level but given I did it on my damn bed with a single carpentry construction level I’ll take it.

How is to your natural hold, (indexing - whatever you want to call it)?

If you have clearance this makes it pretty damn easy.

You could also make a plumbob
My dad has a plumbob. We'll probably put it on his bench outside this weekend with the bipod set up and a bag under the butt stock and re-level it.

That's a big ass scope.
I have the sunshade on it. I love it. Exposed turrets, something like a zero stop, and it's FFP for under $900? FUCK YEAH.

It's heavy but it's also a .309. I need to get it on a bench.

Ah.

What I meant was when you get behind the rifle, are you straight up and down squared, or do you have a slight cant in, (to yourself) or cant outward when you bring the rifle to bare?

I spent a number of years position shooting with a sling and always slightly torqued the rifle into me. It started with iron sights but when scopes were allowed I leveled the scope to my hold because it was too irritating to get on the rifle, then square up, (to the scope). If you have a special way you index the rifle in your hold I don't think its a bad thing to level to that instead of an absolute square.

Unless you're only shooting from a bipod, bench, or extremely long range where absolute square becomes beneficial.

Make sense?

My opinion.

When I stand and shoulder it I'm not square, I'm definitely one foot a little forward and into the rifle.

I'm right handed and the rifle when I bring it to my eye the rifle has a SLIGHT cant to it I think. As in, it isn't straight up and down but it also isn't completely cocked at 45 like I'm using offset irons/red dot.

After watching Yellowstone. I can't get a tacticool lever gun, even though it makes way more sense for night hunting. I gotta get one of these instead.

I thought you already had a tacticool lever gun? You still got it right.

Nope, Weapons licencing have taken this long to process my PTA (permit to acquire a fun little thing we have to do for every gun here in Australia) that the stainless Rossi's got shipped from the US and landed here in that time. Now the tacticool has a bit of competition to see which one gets to dance with me at the prom. I had put about $500 down on it, but I can swap that to whatever gun I feel once the PTA arrives.

I was looking that up and ran across this!

A 45-90! As if the 45-70 didn't kick enough already.

Got my Black Friday on sale tikka in 6.5 creedmoor, the most powerful or most homosexual cartridge ever devised depending on how you look at it. Transitioning the Night Scope onto this thing as my dedicated night time smack'em rifle. Will zero tonight.

@crabmeat

Looks great. What are you feeding it? Interested to see how it goes.

I was given some hunting ammo. 129grn Winchester stuff. Shot 7 times.

Long Story Short I fucked up.

Mounting the additional IR light was always easy on the AR. The other night was rather dim so I was looking at how to quickly get the light on the tikka. I thought maybe I could use the built in mount on the scope, but its not a weaver base. I had the bright idea to unscrew the mount on the scope and replace it. When I unscrewed it I noticed it had an O-ring on it, and opened up the tube.

You can see the mount here.

Didn't think much of it, retightened and went out the zero the rifle.

Started at 50 yards, shots low left, little higher left, then over low right. (usually I'm a better judge of adjustments.

What I noticed though was my scope didn't seem very clear. Usually its pretty crisp. Not that night.

To make things more annoying , we got these fucking cats that followed me out to the range, When I shot the motherfuckers scattered in all directions, but then came right back. Every shot!

Anyway I went back to 105 yards and used the hood of the truck as a rest, and shot 4 more times.
Again the scope was not clear, and I wasn't sure if I was centering up on the target all that well, but it seemed ok when I looked considering.

Hold cunt hair high and 50 and a cunt hair low at 100 is where I have it set now.

Basically I leaked all the nitrogen out of the scope.

Its a Bushnell NightOptics, (Now out of business) fortunately Bushnell said they'd re-purge it for me.

So off it went to Kansas this morning, $108 shipping with $4500 insurance!

Stupidity hurts!
