I'm convinced red dots on pistols were originally just some dude trying to make all his gear as "tactical" as fucking possible. Never crossed my mind id need a red dot for a 20 foot shot
They first appeared on open race guns.



Having a fixed nonrecipricating dot is way faster than irons. The evolution to milled slides on regular guns having a reciprocating dot is faster than irons and makes shooting at distance more quickly easier. Aids in tracking and realignment. I find it easier to be quite a bit more accurate with as well or at least it's more effortless. Especially the further out you get.
