What's the point of a calzone?

I recently went to an Italian restaurant owned by a woman from Italy and thought I'd have a calzone since it's been years since I had one.

I asked if they can make one and the lady said it's just a matter of folding the pizza. It was good but I'm thinking a pizza would've been better. It's basically a pizza but not as good. Having the topping cooked inside the dough makes it inherenly not as good as it's gooey and stays too hot to eat for awhile. The other stuff was good and it was a legit Italian place though.

Why did Italians make calzones when they have the superior pizza?

Pizza Hut had something like it not too long ago and it felt like the price was too high for the reduced ingredients. A folded pizza would have had more ingredients. It was also extra oily.

I would like a flaky crust pizza calzone sort of like a giant curry puff.

I hope this is how you felt about it.

Fully agree, pizza is better as a pizza.

Why do they have panzerott's and also calzones? Like having a bottle of grease for your italian hair right beside your other bottle of grease for italian hair? Seems redundant but whattayagonnadoboutit

Calzones are for people who like crust. I prefer calzone to pizza because I like the thickness and don’t care about the ingredients.

There's a really sketchy pizza place by my house that I only go to sometimes because it's open 24hrs. I once ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich. They were like "Our sandwiches come with a layer of dough over them and they're baked"

It was just a fucking calzone lol. Odd because they also have calzones on their menu. Like I said sketchy as fuck. The prices are always different and never match what it says on the menu and it's cash only.

Anyway that was the last time I had a calzone. I'm not a fan.

Agreed. The first time I ordered a calzone, I was like FOH this pizza is inside out! Pizza is just better, with the cheese and pepperoni crispy. The only point would be if you're traveling with a calzone in your saddlebag or something and you didn't want grease everywhere before stopping a few hours later to eat.

I like a calzone every now and again. Does that answer your question?

You get the toppings of a 16 inch pizza stuffed inside a 9 inch pizza's amount of bread for the price of a 9 inch pizza. What's to complain about?
