What will it take for the UFC to have a card in Africa?

Didn’t Dana say something along the lines of ‘there will definitely be an event in Africa soon’? I know he’s a habitual liar.

Found it.

“We literally had a fucking meeting the other fucking day, and we’re seriously fucking talking about fucking Africa now,” White told reporters at the UFC 279 post-fight press conference. “We’re starting to look at fucking venues and fucking cities to hold an event. Africa is going to happen very fucking soon.”

I may have slightly edited it.
I mean is Dana a liar or did all of his African champions shit the bed in the last year.

Dana said infrastructure is the main problem. He said they’d build an arena if they had to.

In b4 it’s called Francis Ngannou Colosseum.

Legit think it's like Hawaii. Dana always would kinda act like it was gonna happen without any concrete commitment.

It’s also complicated. You can desire to do something but that doesn’t mean you can just press a button and make it happen. Dana isn’t the most political so he isn’t very careful about how he expresses interest.

Yes he is and not sure why that is relevant or true?
You can't just jump into a brand new market especially one as poor as Africa with no selling point. What do you think they're going to do hold a fight island like event for some African tribal warlords? Those dudes don't have nearly enough money for that treatment they aren't like Abu Dhabi in the fact that they just don't have the recourses to build the facilities that the UFC needs for the comfort of their fighters

Izzy, Francis and Usman aren’t selling points? Other countries have hosted events, why not African cities?

They were. Not so much now without the belts and Francis we don't even know if hes ever even going to fight again. Also how many champions outside of Izzy Kamaru and Francis are you going to convince to go defend their belt in Nigeria or Kenya? Nobody and it wouldn't be fair to ask them too. The facilities just aren't there.

Hard to believe. I mean the country of Africa is huge!

Africa is low-key developing more quickly than they are credited with. Still poor, but substantially less poor than in the past, and much less of the rock bottom tier of poverty.

That said, there's a lot of challenges here well outside the scope of what would seem to be best from a marketing perspective.

Doesn't South Africa already host EFC? Wouldn't be surprised if they got a UFC card if Du Plessis beats Till. They've got that other South African guy they picked up from Contender series as well, so it's definitely in the cards I think.
EFC holds events out of it's compound, akin to the Apex.

It would be hilarious for UFC to go to America to just hold the event at the Apex 2.0 with no crowd

I’m not seeing it the same way. If I was Nigerian and a fan of Usman I wouldn’t suddenly stop being one because he lost the belt. Any two of the three I mentioned and it’s a sellout, maybe not a title fight but an eliminator. South Africa hosted a World Cup ffs, pretty sure they could handle the UFC. Are you from there? Do you know something I don’t?

The UFC had three african born champs in the ufc at the same time and still no card in Africa. Now that izzy and usman lost, it seems like the ufc lost a golden opportunity to hold an event in Africa. I really would love to see a card their sometime and I'd love to see MMA spread more to Africa in general. Watching this sport grow internationally and watching new talent appear from various countries is one of my favorite aspects of being an mma fan these days.

What do you think needs to happen for them to have a card there?
All 90 percent of those 3 Africans title reign has been in a pandemic

South Africa isn't the same man. Dana taking them to South Africa after them begging to go to Africa the last 2-3 years would be the ultimate show of disrespect. Might as well just have them fight in England at that point.

So long as they ban vuvuzelas I'd say South Africa. Or Lagos; Casablanca/Fes

Not sure I agree but I agree that the timing isn’t right. I’d love that in England tbh!

UFC is never happening since the Hawaii commission won't cover all the costs, which seems to be the UFC requirement nowadays. Bellator is only able to do it since they suck off the military while there and I assuming get some money back
