What was Scott Coker's dumbest move?

There was nothing wrong with the Overeem vs Rogers booking. Rogers was actually one of the best fighters on Alistair's record during that span of can crushing.

Nothing wrong? He had just gotten destroyed by Fedor (to be fair, Rogers gave him trouble early on) and Fedor/Overeem was obvious and jumped out at people but it never materialized because of the GP.

It was clear Fedor's team didn't want that fight. They called all the shots and wanted the Werdum fight. I don't blame them at the time, Werdum did beat Overeem and the SF HW title was basically nothing.

If you take Werdum and Fedor out of the title picture when they gave Rogers the title fight who else did they have? Bigfoot had just lost to Werdum in his first major step up and his best victory at the time was a SD over fat Ricco and Arlovski got beat by Brett and looked just about done.

And Rogers was one of his better victories during his can crushing period despite having one good win really.

Didn't Overeem go long like two years without defending the SF HW title lol?

Longer than that actually, though SF didn't really have HWs until summer 2009 which is way after he won it and he had other bookings. They were still a regional company that ran shows at the Playboy Mansion and beaches when he won it. It wasn't during the 18 months or so they were a national company. He was actually active there then.

Beltran getting the title shot is new levels of dumb. No justification what so ever.

The UFC has had just as many (if not more) ridiculous title fights. This hardly makes Scott Coker dumb. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the MMA community that thinks Coker is "dumb."

Coker known to over pay for talent that didn't deserve it, You wonder why SF was sold without him knowing.

Giving anyone a title fight after a KO loss is absurd. Please do not pretend otherwise.

Eilers got a shot after getting beat by Paul Buentello. Losing to the amazing Fedor shouldn't be held against someone on Sherdog.

Tough to top Eric Pringles vs James Thompson.

No way giving a title shot to a guy that won 1 fight in the org yet lost multiple times in the UFC is the dumbest of dumb.

Working with M-1.

This is the correct answer.

WRONG acquiring the #1 P4P fighter in the world was 1 of the smartest thing he had done. B4 that deal Strikeforce was only a dot on the map. After getting Fedor they became a threat to the UFC.

There's plenty to choose from, but I feel like my top 5 would all be FEDOR related.

WRONG explained above.

selling sf

Cyborg and KJ Noons Challenged for world titles too but it's not like they had anyone else.

Are you for real? Cyborg was 1 of the most popular females in WMMA at that time.

Swing and a miss.

Coker is on record stating their deal with M-1 is one of the reasons investors backed out on SF.

well its a good thing it wasnt the main event then, huh guy?

Ahhh You. Bjorn put that Pringles/Thompson card together like a week after saying the UFC had some PPV's that he wouldnt watch for free. He got murdered so bad on twitter that im pretty sure the Viacom guys were like "we gotta get this fucken squid outta here, hes embarrassing us"

But ya they real quick switched the Lins vs can fight into the M/E.q Good thing they promoted that as the main event all along right?

M-1 Deal I land that bullshit deal on the door step of Showtime. Coker from everything I know had very little to do with the details of the deal.

Dan Henderson's contract was a complete joke. I'm not sure who was behind that but that was a bad move.

Over all though I'd have to say just the general match making in Strikeforce was horrible. Many matches rarely made any sense. There wasn't any direction most of the time. They'd just match up guys to just make matches. Kind of like this Beltran vs Newton match.......were the hell Coker come up with that.

Are you for real? Cyborg was 1 of the most popular females in WMMA at that time.

Yeah she was so popular that when she beat Gina she killed womens mma.
Gina was popular Cyborg has never been popular.

Negotiating with Fedor. He never should have given Fedor the money that he did.
